On 11/17/2024, I responded to [1000 BLOCK] Highway 49 in reference to a physical domestic dispute in progress. Prior to my arrival, dispatch advised me that the complainant and witnesses were across the street from that residence in a red Dodge Charger.
Upon my arrival, I made contact with the complainant/victim, [VICTIM #1], and two witnesses, [WITNESS #1] and [WITNESS #2]. [VICTIM #1] stated that her ex boyfriend and the father of her children ([VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #3]), Zackary Kitchens, became angry and assaulted her.
[VICTIM #1] stated [WITNESS #2], [WITNESS #1], and Kitchens picked her up from her residence at [100 BLOCK] Old Williamsburg Road around 1900 hrs. so that she could visit with the children who were with Kitchens. Statements gathered indicated that upon returning to Kitchens’ residence, they all began drinking and hanging out. Around 2011 hrs. Kitchens put [VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #3] to bed and returned to the living room. [VICTIM #1] informed Kitchens that she was leaving and he became angry. [VICTIM #1] stated Kitchens was mad because she would not stay the night. When Kitchens began cursing and screaming, [VICTIM #1] walked outside to avoid the argument. [VICTIM #1] got into the front passenger seat of [WITNESS #2]’s vehicle and attempted to shut the door. Kitchens followed [VICTIM #1] to the car and stopped her from closing the door. Kitchens then grabbed [VICTIM #1] by the throat in a choke hold, pulled her from the vehicle and began dragging her towards the house. [WITNESS #1] then began hitting and pulling Kitchens off of [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] was able to get free and climbed into the back seat of the vehicle. Kitchens climbed into the back seat, sat on [VICTIM #1]’s lap and punched her in the face. [WITNESS #1] once again pulled Kitchens off of [VICTIM #1]. [WITNESS #2] then pulled out of the driveway and across the street.
[VICTIM #1] had visible marks on her left cheek by her eye and ear. She also had visible marks on her neck from the choke hold.
Deputy Henderson, Sergeant Robinson, and I went to the residence to speak with Kitchens. After not receiving no answer at the door, we conducted a search of the residence and discovered Kitchens was gone, along with [VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #3]. Sergeant Robinson, and I walked the property but did not locate Kitchens or the children.
[VICTIM #1] stated that Kitchens was not legitimized as the children’s father, and she and Kitchens were not married, so Kitchens had no legal rights to the children. It was further discovered that Kitchens left the residence without his phone and without shoes or proper clothing for the children.
Lieutenant Roberts was contacted by Lieutenant Byrd and asked to utilize the drone to assist in locating Kitchens and the children. Lieutenant Roberts arrived at the location and deployed the drone. After searching the area for several minutes, he was able to locate Kitchens and the children in the middle of a field, south of the residence. Sergeant Robinson and I made contact with Kitchens and placed him under arrest. [VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #3] were located and returned to [VICTIM #1]. Neither child had shoes or jackets and were wet from the dew and fog.
Kitchens was charged with Aggravated Assault Family Violence – Strangulation, three counts of Kidnapping, and two counts of Cruelty to Children 2nd Degree. I transported Kitchens to the jail and turned him over to jail staff along with a completed arrest/booking sheet. I secured warrants for Aggravated Assault Family Violence – Strangulation, three counts of Kidnapping, and two counts of Cruelty to Children 2nd Degree.
