WILLFUL OBSTRUCTION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS – MISDEMEANOR

On August 15, 2026, at approximately 02:58, I, Deputy Craymer, responded to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Tucker Dr in reference to a domestic. While travelling to the scene, dispatch informed us that the caller was the [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. The caller stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was being beaten and choked at the house.

As I pulled on scene, I witnessed brake lights being activated on a black car in the driveway. I positioned my vehicle behind it so that it could not leave. When I exited my patrol vehicle, I witnessed a male in the front yard. He turned away from me and began to run. I yelled for him to stop but he refused and continued to run. The male was wearing a dark colored shirt and was holding a rifle. The victim was in the black car previously mentioned and was getting out to talk to us. I informed everyone that I saw the male run off with a rifle in his hand. Deputies moved the victim to a safer spot and took cover, holding the house.

Once additional unit arrived and a perimeter was established, SSgt Haack was able to interview the victim, now identified as [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] (suspect), Jose Mora, was extremely intoxicated. He had been drinking all day long, morning the loss of a family member that had killed themselves. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that they had been in a verbal argument and Jose called his mother. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] called him a “mamma’s boy” and that’s when Jose became physical with [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. He pushed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] down on the couch in the living room and then began to choke [REDACTED BY AGENCY] with both of his hands. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] could not breathe while he was doing so. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was able to get away from him and outside prior to deputies arriving. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was positioned in a safe area for the rest of the investigation.

Due to Jose being armed and deputies not initially pursuing, we were unsure if he retreated into the house or ran on foot through the woods. The drone was utilized to check the back yard for heat signatures. Once Habersham’s K9 arrived, deputies decided to run a track from where Jose was last seen. The track was unsuccessful, which led deputies to believe he had retreated inside. Deputies knew that he was armed and could potentially be barricading himself inside the house. Deputies also knew that there was a [REDACTED BY AGENCY] inside the house. Command staff was contacted and the swat team was called in. Deputies surrounded the house and held the perimeter until they arrived. The on-call judge was notified and an arrest warrant for aggravated assault was signed. Eventually, the swat team was able to call out the [REDACTED BY AGENCY], and they were able to breach and clear the house. Jose was not inside. An additional K9 track was conducted with negative results.

Later in the day, CID was notified that Jose had made it back home. Deputies returned to his house and Jose was taken into custody without incident. He informed deputies that he had fled through the backyard and had managed to make it to a family member’s house in Cornellia. He also stated that the rifle was in the woods somewhere.

Jose was charged with aggravated assault and obstruction. The aggravated assault warrant was signed prior to his arrest. The obstruction warrant is ready to be reviewed and signed by a judge. Photos of the victims injuries were uploaded to Axon.

Due to the nature of the call, I have left the report active for CID to review.
