On June 29, 2026, at approximately 0254 hours I was conducting routine traffic patrol when I observed a white pickup truck that was running sitting on the side of Atlanta Hwy in front of the U Haul Rental.

I turned around and pulled up behind the vehicle and activated by lights. I approached the driver side of the vehicle while Sgt Ferguson approached from the passenger side. Sgt Ferguson made the first contact with the driver as I was approaching the vehicle. I observed a black female in the driver seat of the truck and knocked on the window to get her to roll down the window.

Upon rolling down the window, I asked what was going on, and she stated she just found out her grandmother had passed and she had pulled over on the side of the road. I asked for her license since she was sitting outside a closed business to which she became upset stating that she hadn’t done anything wrong. I explained that she was outside a closed business and I needed her drivers license. Her movements seemed sluggish and she was not answering my questions. She was identified as I’Asia Jones when she finally gave me her license. While speaking to I’Asia I smelled the odor of alcohol being emitted from her mouth while she was speaking.

I’Asia was asked if she had consumed any alcohol tonight to which she admitted to drinking a couple beers around 1800 hours. I asked I’asia to step out of the vehicle and walk to the back of the truck with me. I’Asia complied with instructions and walked to the rear of the truck, where I asked if she would be willing to submit to standardized field sobriety exercises to see if she was safe to drive. I’Asia did not want to do the exercises but stated she did not want to go to jail, I informed her that she could do the tests and if she was safe she could continue on her way, but if she did not she would be under arrest for driving under the influence and loitering and prowling.

Corporal Perrin from Winder Police Department arrived to conduct the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Reference Case # 2026-00033226. During the testing, I’Asia could not remember the instructions and argued with Corporal Perrin about each test, stating she had already passed them. Upon completion of the tests by Corporal Perrin, it was determined that I’Asia was unsafe to operate a motor vehicle and would be placed under arrest.

We instructed I’Asia to turn around and place her hands behind her back to which she started yelling saying she wasn’t going to jail, and she wasn’t drunk. Corporal Perrin grabbed her right arm, and I grabbed her left arm, when I’Asia started pulling her left arm to keep me from placing handcuffs on her. Corporal Perrin assisted me as I’Asia fell to the ground where I placed a set of handcuffs on her, checked them for fit, and double locked them. I searched I’Asia Incident to Arrest and placed her in the backseat of the patrol car.

I then read implied consent for breath to which I’Asia refused. The vehicle was towed by Hammonds Towing and a vehicle inventory report was completed by Deputy Chatham. Warrants to be obtained for I’Asia :

Warrant # O.C.G.A 40-6-391(a)(1) DUI-Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (less safe) To wit the accused admitted to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of multiple alcoholic beverages.
Warrant # O.C.G.A 16-10-24 Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers-Misdemeanor To wit the accused refused to be handcuffed by Deputy McDaniel by pulling away and not complying with a lawful command and had to be assisted to the ground where she was placed in a prone handcuffing position
Warrant # O.C.G.A 16-11-36 Loitering and Prowling To wit the accused was sitting in a running vehicle outside of 328 Atlanta Hwy SE (U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer @ Patricks Towing after closing time.

I’Asia Jones was transported to the Barrow County Detention Center and turned over to jail staff without incident. The backseat of the patrol car was checked before and after transport. The DD1205 Form was completed and explained to I’Asia before she signed it. A copy of the form was placed in her perosnal property.
