[NARRATIVE #1 on May 16, 2026]

On 05/16/2026 at approximately 2227 hours, I was dispatched to [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive in reference to a 911 hang-up. Dispatch advised that a male caller, identifying himself as [VICTIM #1], stated he had been attacked in his front yard before disconnecting the call.

Upon arriving in the area, I approached [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive on foot. I observed an individual standing in the driveway of [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive. I identified myself and asked if he had heard anything unusual. The individual stated he had not heard anything tonight, but noted that the residents of [1400 BLOCK] and [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive had a history of disputes. During this brief interview, I heard audible yelling originating from the rear of [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive. Simultaneously, I observed assisting deputies make contact with a subject at [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive.

I relocated to [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive, where the male subject identified himself as the 911 caller, [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated that law enforcement assistance was no longer required. I advised [VICTIM #1] that an investigation was still mandatory due to the nature of the 911 call alleging an physical assault. I observed visible injuries on [VICTIM #1], specifically swelling to the left side of his face and fresh blood on his person. [VICTIM #1] was initially uncooperative and provided minimal details regarding the incident. I requested an assisting deputy remain with [VICTIM #1] while I interviewed his wife, [WITNESS #1]. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] pointed toward [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive and indicated the neighbor was the other party involved.

I requested Deputy Sanson to come with me to [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive to locate the second party. Upon arrival, I heard a male continuously yelling in the backyard. I approached the fence line to establish contact, activated my flashlight, and announced, “Sheriff’s Office.”

An adult male exited the rear yard, entered the residence, and then emerged through the front door to speak with us. He was identified as Matthew Thompson. I observed that Mr. Thompson exhibited multiple signs of gross alcohol intoxication, including slurred speech, an unsteady on his feet, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person. I also observed physical injuries on Mr. Thompson, specifically swelling and fresh abrasions on his right knuckles. When questioned about his hand injuries, Mr. Thompson stated, “I have dogs.”

When questioned multiple times regarding the altercation, Mr. Thompson denied any involvement and claimed he had not left his residence all evening. Throughout the interview, Mr. Thompson was highly belligerent and argumentative. I directed Deputy Sanson to maintain visual contact with Mr. Thompson while I returned to [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Pointe Drive to gather more information.

I met with Deputy Chatham and Mrs. [WITNESS #1]. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] explicitly identified Matthew Thompson as the individual who assaulted her husband. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] stated that they had not socialized with Mr. Thompson for approximately one year due to past conflicts, but had agreed to gather tonight. She stated that while they were socializing in her front yard, Mr. Thompson became combative over a disagreement and physically attacked [VICTIM #1].

I briefly re-interviewed [VICTIM #1]. He stated he did not wish to pursue criminal charges for battery. I advised [VICTIM #1] that based on the public nature of the physical altercation and the disturbance caused, Mr. Thompson would be placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct, and [VICTIM #1] would not be listed as a victim.

I returned to Mr. Thompson and Deputy Sanson. Mr. Thompson altered his story, admitting there was a verbal argument but claiming it was limited to wrestling and that no punches were thrown. I informed Mr. Thompson that he was under arrest and commanded him to place his hands behind his back. He initially complied. At that time, Mr. Thompson’s wife began yelling that the incident was “self-defense.” Mr. Thompson aggressively told his wife to “shut up” and “hush.”

As Deputy Chatham attempted to apply handcuffs, Mr. Thompson leaned directly into his wife’s face demanding her to “stop talking.” Deputy Chatham physically pulled Mr. Thompson back and ordered him to get out of her face. Mr. Thompson responded aggressively, stating, “don’t tell me to get out of her face.”

Due to Mr. Thompson’s escalating hostility, I ordered deputies to immediately escort him to a patrol vehicle. As Deputy Chatham, Deputy Sanson, and Deputy Crosby attempted to walk him away, Mr. Thompson began jerking his body away, laughing, and flailing backwards into Deputy Chatham to prevent forward movement.

I ran over and moved to Mr. Thompson’s left side to assist. I secured his left arm and shoulder, utilizing a hold to lean him forward and compel forward movement. Mr. Thompson continued to physically resist by pushing back against my pressure. He eventually stopped resisting and walked to the transport vehicle.

Once secured at the vehicle, I informed Mr. Thompson he was additionally being charged with Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer. I asked Mr. Thompson if his non-compliance was an attempt to “show out” for his wife, and he responded, “yes.”

Mr. Thompson was seated in the rear of the patrol vehicle without further incident. Deputy Chatham transported Mr. Thompson to the detention center. Warrants were secured for Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction. Audio and video (A/V) body-worn camera footage of the entire incident is available. A photo of an abbrasion I sustained when Mr. Thompson resisted arrest is attached to this case report.

[NARRATIVE #2 on May 16, 2026]

On this date, May 16, 2026, at approximately 2240 hours, I responded Code 1 to [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Point Dr in reference to a Fight. Arriving on scene, Lt Guest and other deputies were conversing with the caller and other people on scene. Everyone was standing out front of the address above and shortly after my arrival I was asked by Lt Guest to accompany him to [1400 BLOCK] Erica’s Point Dr, across the street. Music and voices could be heard in the backyard. Contact was made and Matthew Thompson and his wife met us at the front door.

Matthew was emanating an overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage, bloodshot eyes and appeared to have a sway while on firm footing. He was shirtless, shoeless and in shorts. He was blustering and evasive while being questioned. He claimed nothing was going on, has been home the entire time and repeatedly asked who called law enforcement. I observed swollen knuckles on his right hand, especially his middle knuckle, and a red abrasion or laceration on his ring knuckle. Matthew appeared to have donned dirt and debris on his legs.

Matthew’s wife, [WITNESS #2], attempted to talk Matthew would make efforts to keep her silent. He would attempt to domineer the conversation by interrupt her and tell her not to talk. It was obvious that [WITNESS #2] wanted to tell us what transpired but continued to be silence by Matthew. Shortly after Lt Guest went back to the original address, [WITNESS #2] was finally able to tell us that Matthew was next door.

[WITNESS #2] said Matthew and the neighbor got into an argument and Matthew was pushed across the yard, followed by a wrestling match. Matthew was upset that [WITNESS #2] was talking to us. Lt Guest returned and was informed of what [WITNESS #2] conveyed. An opportunity was given for Matthew to tell his side. However, Matthew continued to be evasive and was told he was being placed under arrest.

Deputy Chatham placed handcuffs on Matthew and [WITNESS #2] tried to approach Matthew. She was told to stay back and even Matthew turned and yelled at her. Matthew began to resist lawful commands and even turned his body to get into Deputy Chatham’s face. Matthew was then escorted away by Lt Guest and Deputy Crosby. [WITNESS #2] was loud and kept asking why Matthew was being arrested.

[WITNESS #2] appeared to have a chronic case of selective hearing. Despite being told to stay back and that he was under arrest for likely obstruction for resisting, she continued to repeat herself. She yelled that she hoped that my body camera was working and I directed her attention to the red light, showing that it was recording. Her obstreperous behavior was likely due to her consumption of alcohol which she admitted to drinking and was told not to enter the street. Once Matthew was secured in a vehicle, I left the scene.
