On March 31, 2025 at approximately 1341 hours, I, Deputy D. Walker and Cpl M. Ha, responded to 350 Hospital Dr, in reference to a baby that was left in a trash bag.

Upon arrival, I made contact with [WITNESS #1], Labor and delivery director. [WITNESS #1] advised the labor and delivery department got all call from the ER department about an subject, Alaynah Rappuhn, suspect, that came in and was bleeding heavily. [WITNESS #1] stated that the ER admitted her and removed several blood clots and a placenta. [WITNESS #1] advised Alaynah did not mention anything to anyone about a baby and that it was not until [WITNESS #2], father of the baby, left the hospital and returned with the baby. [WITNESS #1] advised the baby is still alive however the baby was very cold and at the time of this report, the baby was in the NICU.

I then made contact with Alaynah in room 277 in the labor and delivery area. Alaynah stated around 0430-0445 hours this date, she was having bad cramps. Alaynah advised she sat on the toilet thinking she had to use the restroom and when she started pushing, a baby popped out and into the toilet. Alaynah advised she let he baby sit there for approximately 5 minutes before she did anything. Alaynah advised she wrapped the baby in towels in an attempt to clean the baby up. Alaynah advised she could not call anyone for help due to her phone being dead. She advised she then thought about what everyone was going to think and how she was going to provide for the baby.

Alaynah advised she then put the baby in a trash bag with the towels in an attempt to get rid of the baby. Alaynah advised she tried cleaning up the blood that was in the floor and on herself when [WITNESS #2] arrived at home from work at 0600 hours. Alaynah stated she told [WITNESS #2] that she finally had her period and she was bleeding pretty heavy. Alaynah advised around 0800 hours, [WITNESS #2] finally talked her into going to the hospital and as they where walking out of the house, she grabbed the bag and sat it on the back porch.

I then made contact with [WITNESS #2]. [WITNESS #2] stated when he arrived home from work at around 0600 hours, he saw Alaynah standing in the bathroom bleeding. [WITNESS #2] advised Alaynah told him that she started her period and that it was heavy. He then went to the bedroom and got out of his work cloths to shower and go to bed as he had been up over 24 hours. [WITNESS #2] advised he put the dogs up so that they would not get into the blood that was on the bathroom floor and then got into the shower. [WITNESS #2] advised when he got out of the shower he told Alaynah to get in the shower and clean off. He stated as he went and laid down, Alaynah yelled for help. He stated when he walked in the bathroom, Alaynah was laying in the tub and she was very pale looking. He told her to get up and get dressed that she was going to the hospital. [WITNESS #2] stated as he was walking out the door, Alaynah grabbed the trash bag and sat it on the porch. He stated he thought he head a little squeak like a racoon or something coming front he bag.

[WITNESS #2] stated he took Alaynah to the hospital where she was admitted right away and taken to a room. He said while in the ER room, she started passing out so he called for help and the doctors and nurses came running in. When they came in there, they started working on her and pulled out what he thought was a miscarriage baby (later found out it was the placenta). [WITNESS #2] state he told Alynah he needed to go pay the rent and other bills as they were due. He advised he went home to charge Alaynah’s phone so that he could put money onto her Chime card and pay the bills. [WITNESS #2] stated when he got back home, he heard the squeak in the trash bag again. He looked inside to see what the noise was, and that’s when he saw the newborn baby boy. [WITNESS #2] stated he grabbed the baby, got into the car, and rushed back to the hospital with the baby. [WITNESS #2] advised Alaynah then told him what happen.

I asked [WITNESS #2] if he knew she was pregnant and he stated she thought she was, however, she always told him that she was not. He stated that she never really showed she was pregnant and never went to the doctor to find out. During my interview, Cpl. Ha went and saw the newborn baby and advised that he was holding on with the help of NICU nurses on the ventilator.

Cpl. Ha notified dispatch to have Crimes Against Children to the scene. Inv. Sgt Carswell was notified along with Lt. Kosmowski. The case was turned over to Inv. Sgt Carswell. Sergeant Carswell advised to have crime lab en route to the location as well as to see if a deputy can protect the crime scene. There was no available units to go out to the incident location. Cpl. Ha had me stay at the hospital with investigators and he went to secure the crime scene. I rode with investigators to the incident location and we waited for crime scene to come out. Crime scene tech [REDACTED] arrived on scene. The case was turned over to Crimes Against Children and the scene was released to Crime Scene Unit.

This moves her case from the initial accusation stage to formal prosecution in superior court.

What this means: On June 18, 2026, Alaynah Rappuhn signed a Waiver of Arraignment in the Bibb County Superior Court in case number 25CR85756. An arraignment is the formal court hearing where a defendant is read the charges against them and asked to enter a plea. By signing this waiver, Rappuhn — with the advice of her attorney, Travis Griffin — gave up her right to have that hearing held in open court. In place of a formal arraignment, she entered a plea of Not Guilty on all counts in the indictment. This means the case moves forward toward trial. The document was electronically filed with the Bibb County Superior Court Clerk, Erica L. Woodford, at 4:37 PM that day.

6/22/26

ARRAIGNMENT HEARING HELD IN BIBB COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

What this means: An arraignment hearing was scheduled and held on June 22, 2026, at 9:30 AM in the Bibb County Superior Court in the case against Alaynah Rappuhn, case number 25CR85756. This hearing is the formal court proceeding at which a defendant is advised of the charges and enters a plea. In Rappuhn’s case, a written Waiver of Arraignment and Not Guilty plea had already been filed on June 18, 2026, so this hearing likely served to confirm that waiver and plea on the record before the court.
