On Friday November 15, 2024, I was contacted by Sergeant Janet Whetstone of the Bibb County Sex Offender Registry informing me that she was called by the Department of Community Supervision, (Officer Darrell Ambos) about an offender (James Paul Register) who was in possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
I was given Officer Ambos’ phone number to call he would give me the details. I called him and he informed me that on July 9, 2024, DCS officers were conducting their quarterly searches on their probationers. When they arrived at James Paul Registers house ([7000 BLOCK] Sofkee Pl Macon-Bibb County Georgia 31216) they asked to see all his electronics and devices, and because he is a registered sex offender and is on probation he has waived his fourth amendment right. Officers on scene asked him if he had any CSAM on his devices. Register was told on scene that his devices were going to be examined in Houston County, and he admitted to having child pornography on his flash drives.
On July 9, 2024, Lieutenant Darrin Meadows of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search on a Black desktop pc, Xbox, cellphone, external hard drive, and three black and red flash drives. After the search it was discovered that there were several videos and images of CSAM.
On November 19, 2024, I went to 640 North Ave and met with Officer Ambos. I was given a chain of custody form for the following items:
Desktop PC
Cellphone
external hard drive
3 black/red thumb drives.
All these items will be placed in evidence.
This case will be investigated due to Register was a resident and inside of his home in Macon-Bibb County when he was in possession of these items. At this time Register is currently incarcerated at Baldwin State Prison for sexual exploitation of children and has been incarcerated in the past for the same charges of sexual exploitation of children.
