On 9/6/26 at 1353 hours, I, Deputy Mattox, responded to Austin Chase Apartments, [200 BLOCK] Plantation Centre Dr., N. Macon, GA, in reference to a domestic.

Upon arrival, I spoke with Ms. [VICTIM #1]. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she and her boyfriend, Mr. Malik Newman, got into an argument. She stated they were in his vehicle when they started arguing about him being with another female. She stated that when he went to put her out, she told him to get his stuff out of their apartment. She stated that once in the apartment, it started to turn physical. She stated Mr. Newman choked her to the point she almost passed out. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated Mr. Newman also took her debit card, went to the bank, and withdrew $100 of the money he paid for the rent.

Cpl. Vonderhuevel and I were able to catch up to Mr. Newman at a house on Fairburn Ave. and Cypress Dr., Macon, GA. Mr. Newman was taken into custody. An NCIC check showed Mr. Newman had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear. Mr. Newman was transported to the Bibb County LEC without incident.

DEFENSE FILES MOTION FOR REDUCTION OF BOND IN BIBB COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

What this means: On September 15, 2026, defense attorney Gabrielle Rossi of the Office of the Circuit Public Defender filed a Motion for Reduction of Bond on behalf of Malik Ja’Darious Newman in Bibb County Superior Court. The motion states that an initial bond of $8,250.00 was set in this case on or around July 8, 2026, and that Newman has been unable to raise the money needed to post that bond. The motion argues that Newman is a resident of Macon, Georgia, would be a good risk on bond, and asks the court to reduce the bond to an amount he can afford so he can prepare his defense and ensure his presence at all future court appearances. A hearing on this motion has been requested.

DEFENSE FILES MOTION TO INVOKE U.S.C.R. 1.2(B) ORDER IN CRIMINAL CASES

What this means: Also on September 16, 2026, attorney Gabrielle Rossi filed a Motion to Invoke the U.S.C.R. 1.2(B) Order in Criminal Cases on behalf of Malik Ja’Darious Newman in Bibb County Superior Court. This motion asks the court to apply a standing order — signed by the Honorable Martha C. Christian on December 19, 2011, and recorded in the Bibb County Superior Court Clerk’s Office — that governs the handling of criminal cases under the Uniform Superior Court Rules. Invoking this order is a procedural step that triggers certain standard timelines and requirements for how the case must move forward, including deadlines for discovery and other pretrial matters.
