On 9-15-26 around 0700, I, Cpl. Vonderhuevel, responded to 4775 Chambers Rd (Circle K) regarding a fight in progress. Upon arrival, I initially spoke with [VICTIM #1].
[VICTIM #1] stated she had arrived at the gas station, as she does every morning, to get a cup of coffee. Upon approaching the door, it was locked. She made contact with a clerk, and a verbal altercation ensued about the doors being locked and the establishment not accepting customers. During the verbal altercation, [VICTIM #1] stated that the clerk approached her and began hitting her. [VICTIM #1] stated she attempted to defend herself but was unsuccessful. [VICTIM #1] stated she was punched in the face and side multiple times and, upon falling, was kicked in the face.
I could see lacerations and blood in [VICTIM #1]’s mouth consistent with being cut by teeth while being struck. [VICTIM #1] also had a golf ball-sized knot under her left eye, and red blood vessels possibly bursting.
I then stepped inside the store where I spoke with Shelna Hicks. Hicks stated she was supposed to get off work at 0600 hrs. Her replacement was late, so she decided to close the doors, lock them, and not accept customers. Hicks stated that while she was outside speaking with someone to pick her up, [VICTIM #1] approached her. Hicks stated that while trying to redirect her somewhere else to get coffee, [VICTIM #1] became verbally aggressive, cussing and causing a scene. Hicks stated that when she approached [VICTIM #1] to speak with her, [VICTIM #1] pushed her shoulder, initiating physical contact. Upon being pushed, she stated that she doesn’t remember what happened; she just defended herself.
After speaking with both parties, I reviewed security footage of the encounter. The cameras did not capture any audio, but both parties could be seen talking. The camera cuts out momentarily as Hicks approached [VICTIM #1]. When the camera resumes, it shows both females in a fighting stance, and Hicks proceeds to strike [VICTIM #1] in the face multiple times with a closed fist until [VICTIM #1] ultimately falls. Hicks then proceeds to strike her face and then the left rib cage area. The camera cuts again momentarily, then resumes showing [VICTIM #1] attempting to sit up. As [VICTIM #1] sat up, Hicks could be seen walking up and pulling her foot back before kicking her in the face, stomping her back to the ground.
I notified Hicks that she would be placed under arrest and walked her to my patrol vehicle.
Sgt. Lewis, who also responded, reached out after the fact to Lt. Bridger with the Violent Crime Investigative Unit to notify him of the situation, as he had been notified by family that [VICTIM #1] had just had brain surgery last week.
