On June 23, 2026, at approximately 21:53 hours I, Deputy M. Jones, was dispatched to [4000 BLOCK] Mercer University Dr. apt [REDACTED] in Macon-Bibb County, GA. The call was in reference to a person shot.
Upon my arrival I made contact with the victim, [VICTIM #1], and his live-in girlfriend, Tanya. [VICTIM #1] was suffering from a single gunshot to the right leg. It appeared that the round entered the back of his knee. There was a substantial amount of blood loss. I repeatedly asked both subjects “where is the gun?” Neither gave me an answer.
Initially [VICTIM #1] and Tanya explained they did not know who the offender was. [VICTIM #1] stated that he was out front of his apartment building, and he heard a gunshot and realized he was shot. He testified that he did not see the shooter, nor did he see a vehicle involved. [VICTIM #1] also stated that he did shoot himself.
Once a backup deputy arrived, I applied a tourniquet to [VICTIM #1]’s wounded leg. Fire and Ems arrived shortly after and took over medical aid.
I further questioned Tanya. She advised me that she was not aware of anyone that could have a motive or desire to shoot [VICTIM #1]. She stated that [VICTIM #1] does not have a vehicle, so he meets a coworker across the street from this location to be transported to work. When [VICTIM #1] left for work Tanya was sitting on a sofa in their living room. Shortly after [VICTIM #1] left for work, he returned and fell inside the apartment and yelled that he had been shot. Tanya initially assumed she was joking until she got up from her seat and saw the blood.
Deputies could not locate a shell casing or blood outside residence. Multiple neighbors were interviewed and they all affirmed that they heard one gunshot. They did not witness a crime.
After contacting Investigator Rohrbach from crimes against persons, Tanya gave an updated version of the event. I re-entered the residence where Tanya explained and walked me through the series of events.
Tanya explained that while [VICTIM #1] was leaving for work, she went to her hallway closet to move her firearm. Once she grabbed the firearm, she turned toward [VICTIM #1] and the firearm discharged. I instructed her to act out this scene.
Tanya admitted that after shooting [VICTIM #1] she moved the firearm to her bedroom closest. I retrieved the firearm and turned it over to Sgt. Stokes. Tanya then retrieved a shell casing from her bra and turned it over to me. This evidence was turned over to Sgt. Stokes as well.
Per Investigator Rohrbach, Tanya was transported to 111 Third St. for further questioning by Investigator Rohrbach. Once we arrived Tanya requested to exit the vehicle to get more air due to the tight space in the vehicle and the fact that she had been drinking alcohol.
After this interview Tanya was arrested and transported to the Bibb County LEC. The handcuffs were double locked and checked for fit.
