On July 10, 2022, at approximatley 1113 hours, Deputies with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1200 block of Watkins Pond Road in reference to a deceased black male on the side of the road.
Upon officers arrival they located a black male (later identified as [REDACTED] of Augusta, GA) deceased. Upon a preliminary investigation it appeared the victim had been shot. EMA responded to the scene and contacted the coroner’s office to respond. Deputy Coroner Bonnie Powell responded to the scene and called the time of death at 1158 hours. The victim was transported to the Burke County Morgue pending autopsy by the GBI. Investigation was turned over to Lt. Kelly.
