On May 27, 2026, I was alerted via Flock in reference to a stolen vehicle bearing GA tag [REDACTED] coming into Garden City off Highway 80 near Bay Street. At this time, I observed the vehicle at the red light of Highway 80 and 3rd Street (westbound) turning left into the parking lot of 403 U.S. Highway 80. As the vehicle made its left turn into the parking lot of 403 U.S. Highway 80. Officer Savla who was at that intersection of Highway 80 and 3rd Street (eastbound) activated his emergency lights and siren. At this time, I then got behind the vehicle and activated my emergency lights and siren as well.
The vehicle failed to stop and continued through the parking lot at a high rate of speed before making a right turn onto Highway 80 eastbound toward Savannah. I obsevred the vehilce fail to yield to oncoming traffic while making the right turn almost causing a accident. I requested permission from my supervisor to deploy my department-issued grappler device and was subsequently authorized to do so.
While traveling eastbound on Highway 80, I observed the suspect vehicle swerving across multiple lanes of travel and passing vehicles using the left turn lane at Highway 80 and 3rd Street a high rate of speed cutting off other motorist creating a substantial danger to the motoring public. I attempted to deploy the grappler device, however, the driver repeatedly brake-checked my patrol vehicle whenever I closed the distance necessary for safe deployment. Due to the suspect vehicle’s erratic driving behavior and excessive speeds, I was unable to safely deploy the grappler device. I made a second attempt time but was unable too due to the vehicle traveling over 75 MPH. During the pursuit, the vehicle reached speeds in excess of 91 MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone.
The suspect vehicle later turned right onto Augusta Avenue. My supervisor advised me to terminate my involvement in the pursuit if I was unable to safely deploy the grappler device. I advised my supervisor that Georgia State Patrol (GSP) had assumed primary responsibility for the pursuit but that only one trooper was actively involved. I was again instructed to terminate my involvement and return to the city. I then deactivated my emergency lights and siren but continued following at a safe distance behind the pursuing GSP unit due to the trooper being alone.
The vehicle later crashed into a builidng at the intersection of Augusta Avenue and Cumming Street. GSP and I approached the vehicle, and detained all occupants in the vehicle. I placed the middle passenger, Dawn Freeman, in handcuffs that were sized to fit and double locked behind her back. GSP placed the driver, Cazmonea White, and front seat passenger, Kenneth Bryant, in handcuffs that were sized to fit and double locked behind their backs. I gathered all information on my portion of the incident that occurred within Garden City’s jurisdiction. Refer to the applicable GSP CRN (DPS00226187) for their side of the pursuit investigation.
I then placed Cazmonea into the rear seat of my patrol vehicle. Cazmonea was transported to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance. After being medically cleared, Cazmonea was transported to the Chatham County Jail. Judge Moody denied bond for Cazmonea
Cazmonea was issued citations for Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Police, Driving Without a Valid License, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Improper Lane Change. Cazmonea was also charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property in reference to the stolen truck.
