On 05/28/2026 at approximately 18:20 hours, I responded to [200 BLOCK] McAllister St, Apartment [REDACTED], Savannah, regarding a report of a sexual assault. Dispatch advised the reporting party stated she had been raped and that the call taker could hear a male attempting to force entry into the residence. Due to the reported threat to life and safety, I responded with emergency lights and sirens.
Upon arrival, other officers and I proceeded toward the apartment. As I rounded the breezeway on the western side of the [REDACTED] building, I observed a black male, later identified as Karon Thomas, standing outside of an apartment. At that time, I could not determine which apartment he was associated with due to my vantage point. Thomas advised he had been involved in an altercation. I instructed Thomas to walk toward me, and he complied.
Officers then determined Thomas was standing outside Apartment [REDACTED]. Due to the nature of the call and the ongoing investigation, I detained Thomas in double-locked handcuffs and had him sit down while officers spoke with the reporting party.
I then made contact with the reporting party, identified as [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] advised that at approximately 18:17 hours, she and Thomas became involved in a verbal argument. [VICTIM #1] stated that during the argument, Thomas attacked her while she was seated on the couch. When asked to explain what she meant by “attacked,” [VICTIM #1] stated, “He choked me, as usual.”
[VICTIM #1] advised that while she was seated on the couch, Thomas grabbed her by the neck with both hands and began strangling her. [VICTIM #1] stated that after the strangulation, Thomas began gathering some of his belongings from the apartment. Officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter.
EMS responded and evaluated [VICTIM #1] for injuries.
A supervisor responded to the scene. A Domestic Violence detective also responded and assumed responsibility for the follow-up investigation.
Thomas was transported to the Eastside Precinct for an interview with detectives.
[VICTIM #1] was provided a case report number and instructions on how to obtain a copy of the report.
