On 05/24/2025 at or around 0706 hours Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office units were given a BOLO for a drone flying over Hayes State Prison. I, Cpl. Wilks, responded to the area of Ga-1 near Maffett st. in an attempt to locate a possible vehicle involved. Located at the Shell in the Hole, I observed two black males dressed in all black clothing that appeared to have mud on their shoes, and mud all over a black passenger car, with dark tinted windows.

Due to my training knowledge and experience it was a high probability that these suspects could be involved with illegal drone operations. The vehicle appeared to be a newer car displaying what looked like a Georgia registration plate with a Fulton county tag. I drove by the vehicle and checked their tag on Flock for a historical driving pattern. The vehicle traveled from metro Atlanta hitting a Flock camera, and also hitting the highway 27 at Winkle rd camera traveling north around 2356 hours, the night prior. I radioed Deputy Ellenburg to have him en route, and shortly after the vehicle exited the gas station where I turned my emergency lights on initiating a traffic stop.

The vehicle came to a stop on highway 27 north, near Michael’s body shop. I approached from the passenger side and stopped near the rear window due to the windows being extremely dark. The front seat passenger rolled his window down and I asked him to roll the rear window down as well. When the windows were rolled down I could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. I turned my attention to the driver and could tell what look like his eyes do be bloodshot. I asked for his driver’s license and asked him to step out of the vehicle.

As soon as I reached for his license the driver was asked to step out, he took off northbound in an extremely reckless manner. I radioed 911, turned my siren on and told them I was in a pursuit. Traveling north, while weaving in and out of traffic the vehicle was estimated at traveling well over 100 mph. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop making a U-turn near Dixie fiber losing control of the vehicle, and regaining control traveling back south bound. I also turned around and attempted to catch back up to the vehicle when I noticed the light located highway 27 at Central Ave was red.

The driver proceeded through the red light and struck a silver SUV that was making a left turn from Central Ave. Deputy Ellenburg and myself caught up to the violator and began rendering aid to all parties involved in the crash.

Both subjects in the black passenger car were checked through GCIC showing an Atlanta address and being on Probation. I notified Chief Deputy Woods of the pursuit and also requested on call drug agent be en route due to possible connection with the drone drop. The black passenger car was towed by Gary’s towing and where I placed an investigative hold on the vehicle.

All parties involved were turned over to EMS and taken to the hospital. During a brief search of the violator vehicle due to the odor of marijuana in the trunk, its noted that a drone controller and drone external batteries were located and left in the vehicle.
