Officer’s Narrative:

On May 24th, 2026, at approximately 2108 hours, I, Deputy David Spurgeon, responded to [REDACTED BY AGENCY], in reference to an overdose.

Upon arrival, I immediately entered the residence, already occupied by fire and EMS on scene, actively aiding the patient, [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. While enroute to the residence, notes indicated the caller, [WITNESS #1], advised that the patient, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. However, on scene, a glass pipe containing a burnt residue (suspected methamphetamine) was in plain view on [REDACTED BY AGENCY] bedside table.

As I entered the residence, EMTs [WITNESS #2] and [WITNESS #3] were already on scene and attempting to treat [REDACTED BY AGENCY], clearing a route to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and asking family out of the way, including Alexis Echols. As I entered the room, [WITNESS #3] was attempting to get a response out of [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. While doing so, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] fell out of her bed, face first. During this time, no injuries were observed.

Coweta County Fire then wrapped [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in a sheet and carried her to a stretcher and loaded her in the back of their ambulance and transported her to Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Alexis and [WITNESS #1]’s names were taken as they were the last two individuals to see [REDACTED BY AGENCY] before she experienced an overdose. Alexis, a non-biological sister living with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated she last saw [REDACTED BY AGENCY] a few minutes before our arrival. [WITNESS #1], homeowner and non-biological father, stated he last saw [REDACTED BY AGENCY] around 1800 hours.

At this time, Coweta County SO units turned the scene over to Fire and I cleared with a non-criminal report. Later, at approximately 2350 hours, Deputy Henderson notified me that Lieutenant Addis was working at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on a part time and he notified Deputy Henderson that EMT’s told nursing staff they witnessed an assault occurring as they entered the residence at [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Deputy Henderson advised that I needed to come up to the hospital due to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] having visible injuries.

I then started a supplemental event, taking verbal statements from [WITNESS #3] and [WITNESS #2]. [WITNESS #2] stated that as they entered [REDACTED BY AGENCY] room, they observed a black female, later identified as Alexis Echols, wearing a white jersey, pulling [REDACTED BY AGENCY] hair and hitting her in the face, yelling comments like “You know what happens when you don’t pay up.” and “You better stop. You’re going to give me my money, bit*h.”

[WITNESS #3] stated she observed a black female, wearing a white jersey, grabbing the patient’s hair and forcing her head in to the bed, yelling comments such as “You know what happens to people that don’t pay.” [WITNESS #3] stated she interrupted the female by tapping her on the shoulder and telling her to exit the room. I then asked Deputy Gregg to go to Station 8 and gather witness statements from [WITNESS #3] and [WITNESS #2]. Both EMTs completed statements. Statements were submitted to the case file.

I then went to Piedmont Newnan Hospital at around 0002 hours, taking photographs via Axon Capture, of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] injuries. While on scene with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] she was unresponsive. Her condition, approximately 3 hours later, had not changed. I took photographs of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] right brow, showing an open laceration actively bleeding. I also took photographs of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] left and right eyes, appearing to show mild contusions. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was unable to provide a statement due to her condition. I then returned to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] with Deputy Henderson with the intent to interview Alexis and the homeowner, [WITNESS #1]. Upon arrival, an adult female answered the door. I advised her that I was looking for Alexis and asked to speak to [WITNESS #1]. While waiting for [WITNESS #1], Alexis came to the door, changed in to a green shirt. I proceeded to ask Alexis about her pulling [REDACTED BY AGENCY] hair and yelling comments about getting money. Alexis denied everything.

I then asked to speak with [WITNESS #1] and requested to enter the residence. [WITNESS #1] permitted entry and allowed me to enter [REDACTED BY AGENCY] room, where I took photographs of dried blood on the floor, still red in color. The earlier observed methamphetamine pipe was also collected at this time. All photographs were taken using Axon Capture and submitted to evidence.com. While interviewing [WITNESS #1], he stated that Alexis never went in to the room and he had to break the door down. However, later, [WITNESS #1] admitted that he was not present the entire time and could not attest to Alexis’ whereabouts the entire time.

Deputy Henderson then placed her in handcuffs, checking for tightness and double locking each cuff, advising her she was being detained. I advised her that she was under arrest for Battery FVA, escorting her to my marked patrol car and placed her in the backseat. [WITNESS #1] advised that Alexis and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] both lived at the residence and have been for a few years.

I then transported Alexis to the Coweta County jail where she was turned over to jail staff without incident. The methamphetamine pipe was submitted into evidence for destruction. Witness statements were entered in to the case file.

Upon reviewing body worn camera footage from the initial event, it was clear that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had a laceration on her right brow. Footage also shows Alexis wearing a white jersey with red writing.
