On March 29, 2026, I responded to the area of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Martin Luther King Drive in Newnan, Georgia, in reference to a report of an armed subject. Due to my proximity to the call, I requested additional information from 911 communications while en route. I was advised that an individual identified as Brian Gibbs was currently on scene and had been knocking on the residence of the complainant, identified as [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Dispatch further relayed that the situation was escalating and that the suspect was possibly armed.

Upon my arrival in the area, I made contact with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] who appeared visibly concerned and immediately directed my attention toward Ball Street, stating that Brian had just left his residence and was walking in that direction. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] further stated that Brian had come to his residence making threats to kill him and that he believed Brian was in possession of a firearm.

I then proceeded to turn onto Ball Street in an attempt to locate the suspect. As I entered the roadway, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] pointed toward a male subject further down the street. I activated my patrol vehicle’s takedown lights to illuminate the area and observed a male matching the provided description, dressed entirely in black clothing and wearing a ski mask that concealed his facial features. The subject was positioned partially behind a large tree, appearing to use it as concealment.

Based on the totality of the circumstances—including the report of an armed individual, the complainant’s statements regarding threats to kill, and the suspect’s attempt to conceal himself—I drew my department-issued service weapon and issued loud verbal commands for the subject to step out from behind the tree and get on the ground. The subject, later positively identified as Brian Gibbs, complied with my commands without resistance. I continued to issue clear and direct instructions, ensuring officer safety and maintaining control of the situation.

Once Brian was on the ground and no longer posed an immediate threat, I approached cautiously and instructed him to keep his hands visible at all times. After confirming compliance, I holstered my department-issued firearm and proceeded to place Brian in handcuffs. The handcuffs were applied behind his back, double-locked, and checked for proper fit.

Following the detention, I conducted a search of Brian’s person incident to arrest. During the search, I located a firearm in his right front pants pocket. The weapon was identified as a Rossi revolver bearing serial number [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. The firearm was secured, and a records check revealed that it was not reported stolen.

While I was in the process of escorting Brian to my patrol vehicle, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] continued to provide additional statements, repeatedly advising that Brian had come to his residence and threatened to kill him. Officers on scene were able to obtain and review text message evidence sent from Brian to [REDACTED BY AGENCY], which further corroborated [REDACTED BY AGENCY] account. The messages explicitly indicated Brian’s intent to come to the location and kill [REDACTED BY AGENCY] demonstrating clear premeditation and intent.

Based on the totality of the evidence—including the victim’s statements, corroborating text messages, the suspect’s actions on scene, and his possession of a firearm—I determined that probable cause existed for the charge of Aggravated Assault, as well as Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Brian Gibbs was placed under arrest without further incident and secured in the rear of my patrol vehicle. He was searched both prior to and after placement in the vehicle to ensure no additional weapons or contraband were present. The firearm was entered into evidence in accordance with department procedures. Brian was subsequently transported to the appropriate detention facility for booking on the listed charges.

All actions taken during this incident were in accordance with department policy and procedures, with officer safety and public safety being the primary considerations throughout the encounter.
