On June 26, 2026 at 1646hrs, I, D/S McKenzie received a 911 call for service in reference to an assault with injuries at [100 BLOCK] E Freeman St. The offender was described to be a shirtless black male.
When I arrived on scene, I observed a black male shirtless, Dexter Mack, and the victim, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], in the street. I saw Dexter Mack walking toward [REDACTED BY AGENCY] with his fist clinched, muscles tensed, and yelling at [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. I observed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] walking away in what appeared to be a frightened state. Dexter was detained by being placed in handcuffs.
Due to Dexter’s current presentation of aggression and report of bodily harm to another, I drew my duty weapon while giving Dexter Mack orders to get on the ground. D/S Desilva and I took Dexter Mack into custody by placing him in handcuffs. I searched his person incident to arrest then placed him in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that he and his friend [REDACTED] were inside of his camper that is parked in the empty lot at [100 BLOCK] E Freeman Street when Dexter threw a metal folding chair against the side of the camper. Dexter and [REDACTED] engaged in an argument over a speaker that Dexter let [REDACTED] borrow. [REDACTED] walked away. Dexter returned to the camper and told [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to leave the property. Dexter became upset and threw a ash tray against the camper resulting in a dent being left in the side of the camper.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] told Dexter if he throws one more thing, and he will call the sheriff’s department. Dexter then took a pipe and busted the window on the camper by the side entry door to the camper. Dexter began telling [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to leave the property again, and Dexter came toward [REDACTED BY AGENCY] with a metal pipe. Dexter struck [REDACTED BY AGENCY] approximately 6 to 8 times with a metal pipe from his legs to his back. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] ran down the street and called 911 from a neighbor’s house. I asked [REDACTED BY AGENCY] what was he thinking as Dexter struck him with the pipe and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said he felt like he was going to die.
D/S Desilva located a metal pipe in the grass and another metal pipe leaning against the garage. One metal pipe is approximately 3ft long and the other is about 2ft long. D/S Desilva entered the pipes into evidence.
I observed injuries on [REDACTED BY AGENCY] body. I observed fresh abrasion wounds to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] back and left shoulder blade. D/S Kirby took pictures of the injuries and uploaded them to AXON.
I transported Dexter Mack to the jail hwere he was charged with Aggravated Assualt and Battery. I did not locate any prior history showing disputes between the offender and victim.
