I, Ptl Loud responded in emergency mode along with Ptl Wiley to [2300 BLOCK] Downing Ct Apt [REDACTED] in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, I saw a white female (later identified as [VICTIM #1]) lying on her back on the ground. I observed a gunshot wound to her left leg and to her chest. I also observed a white male wearing jeans and no shirt (Aiden Herendeen) hovering over [VICTIM #1] while pressing both hands on the gunshot wound to her chest to try and stop the bleeding. Aiden was crying and stated to me, “I’m sorry, it was me who shot her.” Aiden advised he was [VICTIM #1]’s boyfriend.

Ptl Moore asked Aiden where was the weapon that he shot [VICTIM #1] with and he stated it was upstairs in their apartment (apartment [REDACTED]).

After other officers rendered first aid to [VICTIM #1]’s leg and chest, I placed Aiden in double locked hand restraints. I searched him for weapons and drugs with negative results. I placed him in the back seat of my patrol vehicle.

I advised units to put up crime scene tape. Medical Unit 5 responded to the scene and transported [VICTIM #1] to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment. Ptl Moore followed the ambulance to the hospital to get [VICTIM #1]’s statement of this incident.

Myself, Ptl Paige, and Ptl Simpson went upstairs to apartment [REDACTED]. Ptl Stephens was upstairs making contact with [VICTIM #1] and Aiden’s friend who witnessed the incident [WITNESS #1]. I advised everyone to step outside the residence so that we could ensure no one else was inside. We found no one else inside the residence. I went outside to the back porch and observed blood splatter on the ground. I observed a black hand gun and black magazine on the kitchen floor.

I walked out the residence and listened to [WITNESS #1] give his statement to Ptl Stephens. [WITNESS #1] advised Aiden was teaching [VICTIM #1] about gun safety. [WITNESS #1] advised he told [VICTIM #1] not to put her finger on the trigger unless she was going to shoot. [WITNESS #1] stated Aiden then demonstrated this by putting his finger on the trigger and pulling it back causing the firearm to discharge once. [WITNESS #1] stated after Aiden shot [VICTIM #1] he told him to call the police and carried her outside and applied pressure to her chest with his hands.

[WITNESS #1] advised another female, [WITNESS #2] (Aiden’s cousin) was on scene at the time of this incident but left before our arrival. I returned to my vehicle to run each individual’s name through NCIC/GCIC. [WITNESS #2] returned to the scene and gave Ptl Stephens her statement on this incident.

Lt Arline contacted Investigator Baldwin and he arrived on scene. Investigator Baldwin advised us all to transport the suspect and witnesses to the Law Enforcement Center and he would respond after he spoke to [VICTIM #1] at the hospital.

I secured Aiden in his safety belt and transported him to the law enforcement center. Ptl Farmer transported [WITNESS #1] to the law enforcement center. [WITNESS #2]’s uncle drove her to the law enforcement center. After Investigator Baldwin spoke to all individuals, he advised me Aiden would be charged with Aggravated Assault FV and Posssession of a Firearm during Commission of a Crime.

I placed Aiden in double locked hand restraints and placed him in the rear of my patrol vehicle. I secured him in his safety belt and escorted him to the Dougherty County Jail without further incident. After the escort was complete, I conducted a backseat check for weapons and drugs with negative results. Per NCIC/GCIC, all parties had no active warrants.

Lt. Arline, Sgt. Tuten, Ptl McClain, Ptl Simpson, Ptl Farmer, Ptl Wiley, Ptl Stephens, Ptl Paige, Ptl Moore, SO McClain, Sergeant Perry, Crime Scene Technician [REDACTED], Investigator Baldwin were all on scene.

This case is domestic in nature due to [VICTIM #1] and Aiden living together at this residence.
