On today (06.21.2026) I responded in normal mode to [1400 BLOCK] 11th Ave in reference to an Burglary in progress. Prior to arrival, I was advised by dispatch that the home owner received a call from a neighbor advising someone was inside their residence and no one was supposed to be inside.
Upon arrival, I approached the residence and observed a pair of blue jeans and tennis shoes on the front porch. Ptl. Sharonda Harris was in the rear of the residence and advised there was a light on in the kitchen. While in the rear of the residence, I heard a male voice coming from the inside. The male appeared to be upset and talking to someone. There were no broken glass or force entry into the home.
I asked dispatch to notify the home owner clarify if the doors were locked to the residence, to which they confirmed. The home owner advised the window to the bathroom was unlocked. I then twisted the knob to the back door. I announced myself as police officer with the Albany Police Department and gave a verbal command to exit the residence. I then heard someone moving around inside of the residence.
Moments later, the window to rear bedroom was opened by a black male subject. I told the male subject to show me his hands, to which he closed the window and began fleeing the residence through the front door. After brief foot chase, Ptl. Farley and Ptl. Slankard was able to get the male subject in custody. While in the rear of the residence, I observed a rusted ladder near the bedrooom window.
Ptl. Harris and I searched the residence for more subjects, which was met with negative results. I observed a black colored wallet and a cellphone on the kitchen counter. I opened the wallet and removed a Kentucky ID. The name on the ID was Alexander Brown DOB [REDACTED BY AGENCY] 1995. Dispatch conducted a wanted check through GCIC/NCIC on the male subject, which returned positive results.
Alexander Brown had several active warrants for Probation Violation (WNO:250504 DOW:10/16/2025), Criminal Trespass – No property Damage (WNO :26-001132 DOW: 01/26/2026), Terorristic Threats – Felony (WNO: 26-004007 DOW:03/31/2026), and Failure to Appear for Finger printable Charge – Misd (WNO: 25SR975 DOW:06/01/2026). These warrants were confirmed by [REDACTED] with the Dougherty County Jail and verified by dispatcher [REDACTED].
I made contact with the home owner, [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated he received a call from the neighbor [WITNESS #1] asking if he had returned home. He stated he advised [WITNESS #1] he was still out of town and no one should be inside. [VICTIM #1] stated [WITNESS #1] told him the lights were on inside his residence and then turned off. I asked [VICTIM #1] if anyone was supposed to be inside his residence, to which he stated no.
I asked [VICTIM #1] when was the last time he was home, which he stated Friday (06.19.2026) around 1800hrs. I asked [VICTIM #1] if he was familiar with a male subject named Alexander Brown, to which he stated yes. [VICTIM #1] advised Brown was his best friend “[REDACTED]” son. I asked [VICTIM #1] if Brown was given permission to be inside of his residence, which he stated no. [VICTIM #1] further stated he did not want to press charges against Brown for the incident.
I then transported Brown to be evaluated at the hospital (417 W 3rd Ave). Brown was evaluated by the hospital personnel and was discharged shortly afterwards. While Ptl. Farley and I were escorting Brown to the patrol vehicle to be transported to the Dougherty County Jail, he fled the scene with the cuffs still on his wrists. I observed Brown removing the cuffs from his wrists while he was fleeing. Brown then jumped over a guard rail near the rear loading docks.
I observed Ptl. Farley point his Taser at a downward angle and then deploy it toward Brown. The taser was unsuccessful, and Brown continued fleeing. Brown then jumped over a guard rail that was approximately 20 feet high and entered the hospital through an unsecured door. The door led to the basement of the hospital. After entering the basement through the staircase, we searched throughout the basement and located Brown attempting to conceal himself behind a chair. Brown was taken into custody.
Brown was escorted back to the emergency center for further evaluation and discharged again. I then transported to Brown to the Dougherty County Jail. Upon arrival, my service weapon was secured in the back of my patrol vehicle. Brown was escorted to the sally port intake and released to intake staff without incident. Before leaving the jail, the bvackseat of my patrol vehicle was searched for contraband with none being found.
Warrants for Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers – Misd (26-008444-01APD) and (26-008444-02APD).
Warrants for Escape – Felony was completed for Alexander Brown 26-008447-01APD).
This case is cleared by arrest.
