We, Ptl Hatcher and Ptl. Thomas responded to [1000 BLOCK] W Whitney Ave within the city limits of Albany, GA in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival the scene was made safe and other officers began establishing a perimeter with crime scene tape. The victim, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was being transported to the hospital by EMS Med Unit 2 from being shot in the buttocks. Lt. Gadt went to the hospital to talk with victim and get her information.
I spoke with [WITNESS #1] (cousin) about the incident. [WITNESS #1] stated she was in the house when she heard gunshots coming from the alley. [WITNESS #1] stated a cousin from across the street saying [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had been shot. [WITNESS #1] said that her cousin [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had witnessed the incident.
I spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and he stated they were outside playing basketball with his twin brother. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that there was an accident in the alley with a gray Lexus GA Tag: [REDACTED] and a black Tesla GA Tag: [REDACTED]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] also stated that he saw a blue Dodge Charger arrive to the accident, that’s when the gunshots were fired. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said he hid behind the fence while the suspects were shooting. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] saw 5 male suspects running west towards the Dollar General (408 S Slappey Blvd).
I also spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] he stated he heard several gunshots, but did not witness anything. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said that he was just trying to hide and get to safety. I then spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] who was in the house when the incident occurred. I asked [REDACTED BY AGENCY] did he witness anything he advised he only heard the gunshots, but didn’t see anything. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that he was in the house the entire time, before the incident occurred.
I then went to the back of the house and examined the outside for any bullet holes. I observed 3 bullet holes in south side of the house. While in the back I walked back towards the alley and spoke with [WITNESS #2], who was located directly across where the victim was shot.
[WITNESS #2] stated that she was pulling out from the backyard of [1000 BLOCK] W Mercer Ave into the alley in her 2004 grey Lexus, Ga tag [REDACTED]. [WITNESS #2] stated she pulled into the alley and did not see a black 2019 Tesla, GA tag [REDACTED] traveling westbound and collided with it. She stated her children [REDACTED BY AGENCY] were in the car at the time of the accident.
[WITNESS #2] stated that she knew the driver and the passenger of the vehicle as (Keke and Slug). [WITNESS #2] said that Slug made a call to one of his friends and told them to come where they were. [WITNESS #2] stated that a blue Dodge Charger driven by Fred Kaler, along with two unknown black males arrived on the scene. She stated she and Fred use to date and do not get along. [WITNESS #2] stated that Fred was mad because he felt like he got called out there for no reason. [WITNESS #2] stated Fred said “we can get on it”, and began getting irate. Fred then pulled out the gun and started shooting. [WITNESS #2] stated rushed with her kids towards [1000 BLOCK] W Mercer Ave to get to safety. [WITNESS #2] stated she didn’t know if they were shooting at her, or in the air. [WITNESS #2] stated there was a total of 5 people that began running from the scene heading south.
We began searching the area for any shell casings in the alley and the backyard. We found 8 9mm shell casings in the alley in front of the Tesla. We found an additional 24 9mm shell casings in the backyard of [1000 BLOCK] W Mercer Ave. While searching for shell casings, I observed bullet holes in a white BMW GA Tag: [REDACTED] in the backyard. I observed a bullet hole on the fender of the vehicle and a bullet hole in the driver side rear window.
While on scene I received information that Ptl Martin was off duty and saw the incident. I made contact with Ptl Martin via phone. Ptl Martin stated she was at Pace Gas Station (404 S Slappey Blvd) getting gas. Ptl Martin stated she observed approximately four to five young Black males wearing white T-shirts, black pants, and carrying black backpacks. She stated they were walking westbound in the 1000 Blk of W Mercer Ave Alley. She stated as she was pumping gas she heard two gunshots, followed by multiple additional gunshots. She stated she called 911 and while on the phone she observed one of the males running toward Dollar General. Ptl Martin stated she did not know if anyone had been shot.
Ident responded to the scene to take photos and gather evidence. Investigator Kicklighter also responded to the scene. Investigator Kicklighter advised she wanted the Tesla to be towed to 801 Gaines Ln by A1 Wrecker. A1 Wrecker responded to the scene and took possession of the vehicle. [WITNESS #2]’s vehicle was turned back over to after she consented to a search from Investigator Kicklighter.
Lt S Richardson and Sgt Hart were notified ofthe incident and both responded to the scene.
This case is labeled as aggravated assault and has been forwarded to investigations.
