I responded in normal patrol mode to [200 BLOCK] Mitchell Ave in reference to aggravated assault.
I activated my department-issued body camera to record audio/video of this incident.
Due to the call notes and potential dangerous aspects of the call, I approached the front area of the residence and observed the living room light on. In the front yard, I observed an orange Challenger (GA TAG [REDACTED]), which was registered to B/M Jonathan Daniels and B/F [REDACTED]. I observed the center console inside the vehicle open. I observed a box of Bud Light on the hood of the vehicle, alcohol bottles on the ground, and a purple bonnet by the front door.
Before I knocked on the front door, I looked inside the blinds of the living room and observed a large heavy-set B/M sitting on the couch. I knocked on the door cautiously and heard the loud racking of a firearm as if loading a gun inside the residence near the door. Due to this, I immediately backed away from the door to a safe distance in case of being fired upon.
I waited a few minutes and observed B/F [VICTIM #1] exit the front door. I observed [VICTIM #1] holding her left arm, which had a large lump and was clearly swollen. I observed a laceration to the top of her head, which was bleeding on and off. I observed multiple scratches to the right side of her face, cheek, and neck. I observed her left eye with busted blood vessels. EMS was called to the scene to evaluate [VICTIM #1], who refused transport. Pictures were taken of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries and logged into evidence locker 02 at 201 W Oglethorpe Blvd (Property Management).
[VICTIM #1] stated that a “side dude” hit her while her husband, B/M Jonathan Daniels, was present. [VICTIM #1] stated that the name of her side dude was [WITNESS #1]. [VICTIM #1] was frightened and changed her story multiple times by giving bits and pieces of information. [VICTIM #1] would only state that her side dude potentially named “[WITNESS #1]” hit her with a broom but was actively trying to deceive us to not suspect her husband Jonathan was her attacker out of fear for her safety. [VICTIM #1] stated she and Jonathan had been married for only months and stated this was not the first incident of her being attacked.
We attempted to make contact with Jonathan multiple times, who was still inside the residence. Jonathan refused to exit the residence and speak with us.
[VICTIM #1] stated she did not feel safe at the location and was allowed to go to [900 BLOCK] Easeman Dr, where she met with [WITNESS #1]. I spoke with [VICTIM #1] further since she was no longer at [200 BLOCK] Mitchell Dr. [VICTIM #1] admitted that Jonathan was frequently beating on her. [VICTIM #1] stated that she was tired and was seeking a divorce. [VICTIM #1] stated that Jonathan attacked her and struck her with a broom multiple times in the head and arm due to [VICTIM #1] not wanting to be with him. [VICTIM #1] stated Jonathan grabbed her around the neck and choked her to the point she could not breathe. This was evident due to the blood vessels bursting in [VICTIM #1]’s left eye from strangulation.
[VICTIM #1] stated when I knocked at the door, Jonathan was in possession of a firearm and racked the gun. [VICTIM #1] stated Jonathan said, “Bi*ch, you better not open that door,” and threatened to shoot her. [VICTIM #1] stated she was afraid and left to a safer location with [WITNESS #1].
I spoke with [WITNESS #1], who stated that he was on the phone with [VICTIM #1] during the entire incident, which was confirmed by [VICTIM #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated he heard Jonathan beating [VICTIM #1] with the broom over the phone. [WITNESS #1] stated he was only friends with [VICTIM #1], but Jonathan believed she was cheating. [WITNESS #1] stated he also heard Jonathan choke [VICTIM #1] and attempted to stop Jonathan by talking to him through the phone, but Jonathan ignored him.
I looked through a window of the residence and observed a broom on the front living room floor. I also observed multiple items scattered throughout as if an altercation had happened inside. I asked [VICTIM #1] a few more times to confirm her attacker, and she stated it was her husband, Jonathan Daniels, who attacked her.
A GCIC/NCIC computer check was completed on all parties with negative results for wants or warrants at this time.
Sgt. Tuten was notified and responded to the scene.
Lt. Gadt was notified and responded to the scene.
Investigator Kirsten Watson was notified and stated that she would follow up with this incident and take warrants for Jonathan Daniels at the earliest convenience.
