On 06/26/2026 at approx. 0041 hours, I, Ptl. Harris, responded in normal patrol mode to 604 N Monroe St (Albany Rescue Mission) in reference to an unknown problem.

Once I arrived on scene, Dispatch advised me to meet Med Unit 7 at Phoebe Main (417 W 3rd Ave) with the patient they were transporting. I arrived at Phoebe and observed a white male wearing khaki shorts and a head bandage walking into Phoebe with EMS. I made contact with the male, who was later identified as [VICTIM #1], in Trauma Room 3.

I observed a large amount of blood on his shorts and on his body. I noticed that the bandage was still bleeding as they were taking the head wrap off. Once it was off, I observed a laceration to the top left part of [VICTIM #1]’s head and blood was coming out of it. I observed the wound was split with a piece of skin on each side. The nurses placed staples on the wound to close it. I observed a laceration on the back of [VICTIM #1]’s head. I observed a laceration [VICTIM #1]’s lower back. I observed an abrasion to [VICTIM #1]’s left elbow and a scratch to his right knee. I took photos of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries and logged them into Albany Police Department Property and Evidence Locker #02.

I asked [VICTIM #1] what happened and he said Joshua, later identified as Joshua Coleman, was beating him with a shovel. [VICTIM #1] stated he made himself as cup of coffee and he was heading outside to drink it. [VICTIM #1] stated he had his back turned to Coleman and he started attacking him with the shovel. I asked [VICTIM #1] if they had been arguing and he said no.

I asked [VICTIM #1] if he knew what Coleman was wearing and he said he was unsure. I asked [VICTIM #1] if he knew what Coleman’s last name was and he said he is not sure. I asked [VICTIM #1] if he knew where Coleman was and he said he was unsure. I asked [VICTIM #1] if he or Coleman lived at the Rescue Mission and he said they both do. I asked [VICTIM #1] if he had any other information on Coleman and he said he was a 21 year old black male and “he’s crazy”. [VICTIM #1] stated he believes Coleman has some mental issues.

While [VICTIM #1] was being accessed by Phoebe’s staff, I notified Sgt. Outlaw of the incident. I asked Ptl. Guess if she could go to the Rescue Mission and speak to any potential witnesses and she said she would. I advised Ptl. Guess of the information provided and she advised that Coleman was on scene. I left Phoebe and made contact with Coleman. I asked Coleman what happened and he said he does not know. Coleman stated he was asleep when the incident occurred.

I spoke to Ptl. Guess and she advised a male named [WITNESS #1] saw a portion of the incident occur. I placed Coleman in double-locked handcuffs to the rear and searched him incident to arrest. The search yielded negative results for any weapons or illegal contraband. Coleman was placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle, car 18-198. Coleman was placed in a safety belt. Coleman was not complaining of any injuries at this time.

Sgt. Outlaw arrived on scene and called for the on-call investigator to respond to the scene. Cpl. Beal was notified and responded. While we were waiting for Cpl. Beal, Ptl. Guess advised me that there was blood inside of the residence. I went inside of the location and located blood in the living room. I noticed a blood trail that lead to a back room. I asked [WITNESS #1] where does the blood lead to and he said to [VICTIM #1]’s room. [WITNESS #1] advised [VICTIM #1] stays in the back bedroom of that location. Ptl. Guess advised that she spoke wit [WITNESS #1] and he took the shovel away from Coleman and placed it outside.

I located the yellow and black shovel outside of the residence near the door frame. I collected the shovel and noticed that it had blood splatter on the bottom and blood on the middle portion. Photos were taken and logged into Albany Police Department Property and Evidence Locker #02. The shovel was logged into Albany Police Department Property and Evidence Locker #03.

Cpl. Beal arrived on scene and advised me to transport Coleman to the Law Enforcement to he can interview him. I transported Coleman to the Albany Police Department Investigations. After Cpl. Beal interviewed Coleman, he advised Coleman that he would be charged with Aggravated Assault. An arrest booking card was completed prior to my arrival at the jail.

Coleman was placed back in double-locked handcuffs to the rear and placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle, car 18-198. Coleman was placed in a safety belt. Coleman was transported to the Dougherty County Jail. Upon arrival at the jail, my weapon was placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle. Coleman was escorted into the jail and released to the jail staff without incident. While the intake staff were asking Coleman their general questions, I noticed blood on the top of Coleman’s left foot and o his right big toe. I was unable to take photos of the blood at this time.

A GCIC/NCIC check was conducted on all parties and they were negative for any wants/warrants.

This case remains active and has been forwarded to Cpl. Beal with Investigations.
