I, Ptl. Schultz, responded in normal mode to [500 BLOCK] Swift St Apt [REDACTED] in reference to a vehicle being shot.
Prior to my arrival, I canvassed the 1100-Blk of Clark Ave for shell casings in reference to a Raven Altert (multiple gunshots). I was met with negative results.
Upon my arrival, I made contact with the vehicle owner, [VICTIM #1]. She advised that her vehicle was shot up with her son and his girlfriend inside of it. I made contact with the girlfriend, [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. She advised that she was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle when someone shot at them. She advised that they stopped at 1117 Clark Ave (Stop N Shop) to get gas inside of the vehicle. When they left the store, an unknown vehicle followed them and began shooting at them.
[VICTIM #1] advised that her son, [VICTIM #2], left the scene clue to being scared about someone trying to kill him. I did advise [VICTIM #2] via phone to return to his mother’s apartment so I could speak with him. He did return to the apartment. Upon making contact with him, he advised that he did does not know anything and that he did not want to talk with police.
[VICTIM #2] did later advise that he was driving the vehicle. He advised that he stopped at the Stop N Shop gas station to fuel up the car. He advised that he observed a light blue RN or Hatchback (possibly a Honda) parked at the gas station (backed into a parking spot). He advised that he got out of his vehicle and went inside of the store to pay for the gas. He stated that after he finished pumping gas, he left the gas station and began traveling eastbound on Clark Ave. [VICTIM #2] stated that he observed the light blue SUV following him. He then heard gun shots and began trying to get away from the vehicle.
[VICTIM #2] advised that he is not gang affilliated and that he does not have any issues with anyone. He also advised that he does not know who would have shot at him. I advised him that most likely, the shooter watched him walk into the store and that they most likely knew that they were shooting at him. [VICTIM #2] was not forthcoming with many details of the incident. [VICTIM #2] did have a small abrasion to his left thigh, possibly from the broken glass. I did take photos of this injury.
I did observe a bullet hole in the back windshield of the vehicle [REDACTED]. I also observed four more bullet holes in the rear driver’s side window of the vehicle. I also observed a tear in the Driver’s side rear seat headrest that appeared to have been from one of the projectiles. The Driver’s side rear tire was also flat. I was unable to locate a bullet hole in the tire. The vehicle is a green in color 2008 Ford Escape. Photos were taken of the vehicle’s damages.
I returned to [500 BLOCK] Swift St Apt [REDACTED]. I made contact again with [VICTIM #1]. She advised that she told [VICTIM #2] to take his grandmother a bank card. She advised that the grandmother lives on Clark Ave, east of Swift St. This explains why [VICTIM #2] was traveling eastbound on Clark after getting gas for the car.
Ptl. Pinkins, Lt. Richardson, and I all canvassed the area for shell casings. We were met with negative results. I did locate a small amount of broken glass at the intersection of Blaylock St and Clark Ave.
I returned to 1117 Clark Ave in reference to possibly getting video footage of The light blue SUV. The clerk advised that he would be unable to provide the footage and that the manager would be in at 1900 hours for us to review footage. A service request form will be completed in reference to retrieving this video footage.
This case remains active and will be forwarded to investigations.
