I responded in normal mode to 2448 N. Slappey Blvd. (McDonalds), within the city limits of Albany, Georgia, in reference to a burglary in the second degree.
Upon arrival, I made contact with the on-duty manager, [WITNESS #1], who advised that she was working the front register when a Black male subject, identified as Mainsley Groudet, came back inside the business and walked right past her with his right hand in his jacket pocket and his left hand inside his pants. [WITNESS #1] advised that she initially thought nothing of it because she assumed Groudet was still working. She stated that Groudet did not say anything and was wearing all black with a pair of black and white Nike Dunk shoes (Pandas). [WITNESS #1] advised that Groudet had been gone from the location for approximately two hours before returning. She stated that she was later notified by employees that the business had just been robbed. [WITNESS #1] advised that the safe had not been locked and contained approximately $800.00 in cash. She further advised that Groudet had never been involved in any altercations with anyone inside the store and had never caused her any problems. [WITNESS #1] stated that she did not observe a firearm but believed, based on the way Groudet was positioning his hands, that he could have possibly been concealing one.
I then made contact with employee [WITNESS #2], who advised that she was behind the counter near the frappe machine when she observed Groudet walk inside the business and push past her, bumping into her as he walked by. [WITNESS #2] advised that Groudet was wearing black and white Nike Dunk shoes (Pandas). She stated that she observed Groudet open the safe and remove a blue zippered bank bag before running toward the rear exit. [WITNESS #2] advised that she recognized Groudet by looking into his eyes and immediately knew it was him. She stated that she was unsure whether Groudet was wearing gloves and advised that she did not observe a firearm. [WITNESS #2] advised that Groudet did not say anything to her during the incident.
I then made contact with [REDACTED BY AGENCY], who advised that she was in the back of the business stocking sauces when the incident occurred. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that she observed a subject wearing a black shiny puffer jacket and black pants. She advised that she was unsure whether the subject was wearing blue gloves on his left hand but believed she observed something blue on that hand. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that she did not observe the subject carrying anything and did not see a firearm.
I then made contact with [WITNESS #3], who advised that he was standing near [WITNESS #2] when he observed Groudet walk into the business and push past both of them, causing them to be bumped. [WITNESS #3] advised that Groudet was wearing a black puffer jacket with both hands inside the jacket pockets. [WITNESS #3] stated that, on a prior occasion while they worked together, Groudet showed him a black Glock 19 Gen 5 handgun at work and instructed him not to tell anyone. [WITNESS #3] advised that he did not know why Groudet showed him the firearm. [WITNESS #3] stated that he did not observe Groudet with a firearm during the incident on 07/16/2026 but noted that the pockets of Groudets puffer jacket were deep enough to conceal one. [WITNESS #3] advised that Groudet did not say anything to him during the incident.
He stated that he recognized Groudet by looking into his eyes and immediately thought, I think I know him. [WITNESS #3] further advised that Groudet usually brought a firearm to work. [WITNESS #3] also stated that he previously heard Groudet ask another employee [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to leave the back door open for him. [WITNESS #3] advised that he heard [REDACTED BY AGENCY] refuse by telling Groudet that he was not going to do so. [WITNESS #3] also stated that Groudet was wearing black and white Nike Dunk shoes (Pandas).
I then made contact with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] (16) in the presence of his great-grandmother, [REDACTED]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that he had been working in the kitchen with Groudet prior to the incident. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that Groudet told him, Gang, Im finna leave. I gotta do some side work. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that Groudet then asked him to leave the back door open. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that he replied, Nah, I cant do that. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that Groudet then walked out of the building. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that he did not observe a firearm and had no knowledge that Groudet intended to rob the business.
I then made contact with [REDACTED BY AGENCY], who advised that she was working the back drive-thru when she observed Groudet. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that she recognized Groudet by his body type. She stated that she observed him walk quickly past her while slightly bent over. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that she observed Groudet pick something up but could not see exactly what he had grabbed. She stated that Groudet appeared to be wearing blue or purple gloves. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] further advised that Groudet had what appeared to be either a gray shirt or a ski mask covering the lower portion of his face, leaving only his eyes visible. She stated that after grabbing the item, Groudet quickly exited the business.
A manager on scene was able to verify that Groudet clocked out of work at approximately 2057 hours on 07/16/2026.
While I was speaking with witnesses outside the business, two individuals advised that Groudet fled the area on a bicycle. Neither witness was able to provide a description of the bicycle.
While I was interviewing witnesses, Lt. Henry reviewed the surveillance video and obtained a copy from Operations Manager [REDACTED]. A Crime Scene Unit video request form was completed and will be emailed to Lt. Freeman so the surveillance footage can be collected as evidence.
I also reviewed the surveillance footage. I observed an individual wearing a black shiny pufferjacket and what appeared to be a light-colored pink glove access the safe without entering a PIN and remove a blue object consistent with the bank bag described by witnesses. I was unable to observe the subjects face because the subjects back was facing the camera during the incident.
Sgt. Allen, Lt. Henry, Lt. Jones, and Investigator Clark were notified and responded to the scene.
The scene was turned over to Investigator Clark. This case remains active pending further investigation.
