We (Cpl. Newberry and Ptl. Paige) responded in emergency mode (lights and sirens) to 1400 E Broad Ave (Dixie Food Mart), in reference to an Armed Robbery.

Upon arrival, I (Cpl. Newberry) made contact with “[VICTIM #1],” who’s an employee of the business. [VICTIM #1] stated that two black males entered the business. [VICTIM #1] stated that the males grabbed him [VICTIM #1] and commanded him to open the cash registers, while having guns drawn at him [VICTIM #1].

[VICTIM #1] stated he was taken to the register by the males and that he opened the cash registers. [VICTIM #1] stated that the subjects stole an unknown amount of money from both cash registers. [VICTIM #1] stated that the subjects also stole his [VICTIM #1] wallet. [VICTIM #1] stated that the subjects departed from the business on foot.

[VICTIM #1] described the males as both having a “slim” build. [VICTIM #1] stated that one male was tall, and the other was short. [VICTIM #1] stated that one of the males was in possession of a long gun, while the other was in possession of a handgun.

Ptl. Paige made contact with a witness while on scene.

[VICTIM #1] advised that his wallet contained “$1000, two credit cards (1 Discover Card and 1 Bank of America Card), a work permit, and his driver’s license.”

I was able to obtain surveillance footage of the incident, from the surveillance cameras on the property of 1400 E Broad Ave (Dixie Food Mart). I observed [VICTIM #1] walk from behind the counter and walk to a threshold. The threshold leads to the shopping area of the business. I observed the two male subjects approach [VICTIM #1] with their guns drawn.

The first male subject was wearing all black (puffer coat, black bottoms, black shoes, and a mask) and was in possession of a long gun (rifle possibly). The first male was wearing gloves; one of the gloves was powder blue (similar to medical gloves) and was on his right hand. The second male was also wearing all black (black hoodie with orange Nike check logos going through the letters “N,” “I,” “K,” and “E”; black bottoms, black low top Nike Air Force 1 shoes, black mask, and white socks). The second male was also wearing a black backpack, grey gloves, and in possession of a handgun.

The males took [VICTIM #1] behind the counter. The first subject, who was in possession of the long gun struck [VICTIM #1] in the head with the tip of the long gun. [VICTIM #1] then opened the first cash register and the subjects removed the cash from the drawer. [VICTIM #1] then opened a second cash register, which was not in the frame of the surveillance footage, and took money from that register as well. [VICTIM #1] advised that his wallet was near the second register, and that’s when it was stolen. The male subjects then exited the store on foot, and ran north on N Carroll St.

I observed a cut on the left side of [VICTIM #1]’s head, which caused blood to leak from his head down to his neck. This injury was caused by the subject striking him [VICTIM #1] with then firearm.

Photos of the scene were taken. Surveillance footage of the incident was collected. Both have been burned to a disc and logged into evidence locker #02.

Lt. Arline and Sgt. Tuten responded to the scene.

A GCIC/NCIC Check was done on [VICTIM #1], which yielded negative for warrants/holds.

This case has been turned over to Cpl. Price of Investigations.
