This incident occurred within the city limits of Albany, Georgia. On 07/29/2026, Ptl. Z. Rathel and I (Ptl. C. Swinney) responded in normal patrol mode to 2505 N. Slappey Blvd. (Superior Creek Lounge) in reference to an aggravated assault. While en route, Ptl. Battle advised the suspect was a white male, later identified as Scott Everson, who was located at 2448 N. Slappey Blvd. (McDonald’s) wearing a blue shirt, blue shorts, and no shoes.

Upon arrival at McDonald’s, we located Everson sitting inside a booth and asked him what had occurred. Everson stated he had been sitting outside the hotel when an unknown Black male stole his wallet from his shoe. Everson stated he retrieved his wallet, at which time the male attacked him with a hatchet. Everson claimed the male struck him multiple times in the back of the head with the hatchet. Everson refused to provide any further information regarding the incident.

While speaking with Everson, I observed blood coming from the right side of his head; however, I was unable to clearly observe the injury due to the amount of blood present. Med Unit #07 responded to the scene to evaluate Everson’s injuries.

Ptl. Battle advised that, based on witness and victim statements obtained prior to our arrival, and advised us to detain Everson. See officer supplement for further information. Everson was placed in handcuffed double locked in the rear. Everson was searched incident to arrest to which negtive results were met. Everson was then placed in the rear of Ptl. Estrada patrol vehicle.

We then responded to 2505 N. Slappey Blvd. to make contact with the remaining involved parties. We spoke with [VICTIM #1], who stated he became involved in a verbal argument with individuals staying in Room [REDACTED]. [VICTIM #1] advised Everson suddenly rushed out of the room in an irate manner, began yelling racial slurs at him, and attempted to strike him multiple times with a closed fist. [VICTIM #1] stated he blocked the punches, at which time Everson ran to a shopping cart, retrieved a chair, and attempted to strike him with it. [VICTIM #1] stated he grabbed the chair and threw it to the ground before Everson could hit him. [VICTIM #1] advised Everson then retrieved a wooden board while [VICTIM #1] was attempting to leave the area in a golf cart. [VICTIM #1] stated Everson blocked the golf cart from leaving and repeatedly swung the board at him. [VICTIM #1] advised he raised his left arm to block the strikes, causing the board to break and resulting in lacerations to the left side of his face, neck, and left arm. [VICTIM #1] stated he then struck Everson twice with a closed fist, causing Everson to fall to the ground before fleeing eastbound toward McDonald’s. [VICTIM #1] stated he did not pursue Everson after he fled.

We also spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY], who stated he witnessed the entire incident. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated he observed Everson exit Room [REDACTED] in an irate manner after becoming upset with [VICTIM #1] for removing a board from a window. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated he saw Everson retrieve a wooden board and repeatedly swing it at [VICTIM #1] while [VICTIM #1] was seated in a golf cart. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised [VICTIM #1] blocked the strikes with his left arm, causing the board to break. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] further stated Everson then grabbed a chair from a shopping cart and attempted to strike [VICTIM #1] with it. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised [VICTIM #1] grabbed the chair, threw it to the ground, and struck Everson twice with a closed fist. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated Everson then fled eastbound toward McDonald’s and [VICTIM #1] did not chase him.

We made contact with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY], both of whom provided statements consistent with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] account of the incident.

A GCIC/NCIC check was conducted on both [VICTIM #1] and Everson, which returned negative results. While on scene, I observed lacerations to the left side of [VICTIM #1]’ face, neck, and left arm. I also observed Everson bleeding from the back of his head. Photographs of both [VICTIM #1]’ and Everson’s injuries were taken and logged into Evidence Locker #02 at the LEC. Sgt. Jackson and Lt. Arline responded to the scene. Lt. Arline assumed responsibility for the investigation. Ptl. Estrada transported Everson to Phoebe for medical treatment of his injuries.
