I, Ptl. LaGree and Ptl. Rivers responded in normal mode to [800 BLOCK] 7th Ave, which is within the city limits of Albany, in reference to family violence.
Upon arrival, we observed a black male, later identified as Shinar Edwards, kick and attack a black female who was lying on the ground. We made contact with Edwards. He stated his girlfriend ([VICTIM #1]) threw a knife at him. We had Edwards sit down on the ground. Ptl. Rivers walked over to the two females ([VICTIM #1] and [VICTIM #2]) and observed both of them with blood covering their faces. We detained Edwards and placed him in handcuffs double locked behind the back. Ptl. Rivers conducted a search incident to arrest for any weapons and contraband with negative results. We observed blood on Edwards’ fist
Ptl. Rivers read Edwards his Miranda Warning and he refused to talk. Ptl. Rivers made contact with [VICTIM #1]. She stated her and Edwards just got back from Door Dashing. She stated Edwards started acting crazy because he was off the drugs. She stated they went inside. She stated Edwards started punching her in the face. She stated her mom ([VICTIM #2]) ran to the neighbor’s house to call the police. She stated she went over to where her mom was at. She stated Edwards started beating her and her mom. She stated Edwards took their phones and broke them. She stated Edwards started punching them in the face.
While on scene, I spoke with [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated that he heard the altercation. [WITNESS #1] stated that when [VICTIM #1] came over to [800 BLOCK] 7th Ave Apt [REDACTED]. [WITNESS #1] stated that he then called the emergency number (911). [WITNESS #1] stated that he gave [VICTIM #1] the phone to speak with the operator. [WITNESS #1] stated that Edwards came over to the residence and started yelling at [VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated that [VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #1] started walking towards the road to check if law enforcement was coming. [WITNESS #1] stated that once they got to the road, Edwards took the [VICTIM #2] arm and swung her around across the concert, making her hit her face. [WITNESS #1] stated that Edwards then began to punch on [VICTIM #2]. [WITNESS #1] stated that he saw Edwards punching [VICTIM #2] approximately three to five times. [WITNESS #1] stated that after Edwards finished punching [VICTIM #2], he went to punch [VICTIM #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated that Edwards started throwing their cellphone on the roadway.
I then spoke with [WITNESS #2]. [WITNESS #2] stated that approximately 1255 hours, she looked at her camera, when she saw [VICTIM #2] and [VICTIM #1] talking to [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #2] stated that’s when she went outside. [WITNESS #2] stated that she saw Edwards punch [VICTIM #1] by the truck in her yard. [WITNESS #2] stated that Edwards then walked away, going towards the road. [WITNESS #2] stated that once he got in the road, he had [VICTIM #2]’s arm and swung her to the ground, causing her to hit her face. [WITNESS #2] then stated that once [VICTIM #2] was on the ground, Edwards got on top and started punching her again. [WITNESS #2] stated that Edwards began to throw their cellphones. [WITNESS #2] stated she does have a camera that may have captured the incident.
I observed portions of video footage. While observing the footage, I observed [VICTIM #1] and [VICTIM #2] standing outside the neighbor’s house. I also observed Edwards coming towards them, yelling and getting all up in their face. Also, I observed on scene the broken parts on the cell phones, and the large amount of blood. I collected the videos and logged them into evidence. Assigned to locker 02 at 201 Oglethorpe Blvd.
I informed Sgt.T. Allen, who contacted the on-call investigator (Investigator Woodall). EMS arrived on scene
This case remains active for further investigation.
