On June 18th, 2025, at approximately 0807 hrs, I responded to [200 BLOCK] Elkins Cemetery Rd. in reference to a domestic.
Upon my arrival, I made contact with Ms. [VICTIM #1]. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she was in bed asleep when her husband, Mr. Keith Viets came into the room to get in the bed. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated he had been drinking and that his drinking is an issue. She stated he came into the bedroom, woke her up, and started yelling at her about her turning the A/C down to 70 degrees. She stated during his yelling as he was lying down, he hit her in the face with a pillow, causing his hand to hit her in the right eye.
I then made contact with Mr. Viets. Mr. Viets was irritated with the presence of law enforcement and not very complainant with questions that were asked. However, when asked if there was a verbal argument, Mr. Viets stated yes. When asked what the argument was about, he stated it was about her turning down the A/C. When asked if he had hit her with a pillow, he stated yes.
Given the statements made by both parties, Mr. Viets was placed under arrest for simple battery FVA (O.C.G.A. 16-5-23(f)), and due to Ms. [VICTIM #1] being over the age of 65 years old, cruelty to persons 65 years or older (O.C.G.A. 16-5-102).
Mr. Viets was placed in double-locked handcuffs and secured in the back seat of my patrol vehicle.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] was issued a CRN and was informed of how to make contact with the victim-witness advocey.
Mr. Viets was transported to the jail and was handed over to jail staff.
