On July 24th, 2026 at approximately 01:08AM, I, OFC T. Zenga #57, responded to a suspected assault involving a pellet gun at 1801 Shorter Ave.

Upon my arrival, two other officers were on scene, so I turned down Burnett Ferry to find the suspect. Upon making the turn, I located the alleged suspect, Daniel Washington, riding away from the backside of 1801 Shorter Ave. Upon making contact, I confirmed his name then detained him in handcuffs. I conducted a pat down for any weapons or firearms since he was suspected of shooting the victim. Daniel advised me he had two pipes in his front right pocket in which I recovered.

While patting him down, I felt what would be described as a small package with small lumps inside of it. Using my knowledge, training, and experience with the already found pipes, I assumed it would have drugs inside of it. I pulled the package out and discovered what I suspect to be marijuana inside.

While now searching Daniel, he began stating that [VICTIM #1] was the one that attacked him and even stated to me that the victim, later identified as [VICTIM #1], told the dogs to attack him. I decided to read Daniel his Miranda rights and asked him if he had a pellet gun. Daniel denied ever having a pellet gun and only acting like he had something to get them to leave him alone.

I then went and spoke to [VICTIM #1], but while walking over to him, I discovered a scope that would be attached to a BB gun/ Pellet gun. I then asked [VICTIM #1] if it was a long or short gun and he advised it was a long pump style pellet rifle and that the scope on the ground was attached to it. We checked the area, but was unsuccessful in locating the rifle.

I then noticed multiple lacerations on [VICTIM #1] and he was bleeding. His dog also had 7-8 small sized spots where blood was coming out, which all of it was photographed. An officer stated that [VICTIM #1] advised them that Daniel had showed up asking him for money in a demanding manner. [VICTIM #1] tried to get him to go away and this caused an argument that then led to Daniel trying to attack [VICTIM #1] with his fists. [VICTIM #1] then stated that is when Daniel pulled out his pellet rifle and started shooting him and the dog.

Daniel was advised he was under arrest and placed in the backseat of my marked patrol vehicle. I then transported him to Floyd County Jail where he was booked.

All physical evidence was collected and placed in the temporary evidence locker at the Rome Police Station.

All Photographic evidence was entered into AXON.
