On Thursday, June 25, 2026, at approximately 2:54 p.m., I responded to Veterans Memorial Hwy near J L Todd Dr, regarding a motor vehicle accident (MVA) Hit and Run. I spoke with a witness, [WITNESS #1], who informed me that the driver of a Black Toyota Sienna Van with Georgia tag [REDACTED] was driving recklessly, weaving in and out of traffic before striking a tractor-trailer. Ms. [WITNESS #1] stated that after the van struck the tractor-trailer, the driver left the scene, so she followed it all the way to Broadus Rd before turning around to return to the tractor-trailer driver.
I ran the Van tag she gave me through GCIC, which came back as Peter Martin with an address of [REDACTED BY AGENCY], which runs off Broadus Rd.
I went to the address to make contact with the owner. Upon arriving at the house, I located the Black Toyota Sienna Van with the same tag number the witness provided and noticed it had passenger-side damage with blue paint transfer from the tractor-trailer. I knocked on the front door, which had glass on it. I noticed the owner, Mr. Peter Martin, sitting at a table in the kitchen. After I knocked, he saw me and came to the door. I asked about the wreck and if he was driving the van. He confirmed that he was driving the van during the wreck and told me that the tractor-trailer sideswiped him, but he left the scene.
Based on his statement, the other driver’s statement, and the witness statement, I placed Mr. Martin under arrest and placed him in the backseat of my patrol car. After arresting him, I could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. I read him his Miranda rights, but he refused to answer any more questions.

Mr. Martin was transported to the Floyd County jail without incident. The back seat of my patrol car was searched at the beginning of my tour of duty, and after he was released to the jail.
