On the 12th of May CID responded to a gun shot wound at the Redmond Hospital involving a 17 year old. I spoke with the 17 year old and was able to gather that it was self inflicted and accidental. See case file for details.

[NARRATIVE #2 on May 12, 2026]

On the above date and time I, Officer B. NEWPORT, was contacted by Investigator C. ROUBIEU in reference to 911 advising their was a 911 hangup in the area of Armuchee High School. I was advised that the phone was pinging in the area of the back parking lot. I made my way to the back parking lot to visually observe the two back parking lots to see if I could see anything indicating an emergency. I observed their was a lot of vehicle traffic due to pending student dismissal, but did not observe anything out of the ordinary and returned inside the school.

At approximately 1600, I left the school and was driving toward my residence at the end of my work day. At 1609, I was contacted by AP [WITNESS #1] who informed me that their was a female student who advised them of a possible accidental shooting that occurred in the north side parking lot near the woods. At the same time I heard radio traffic by investigators out with a possible gun shot victim at Redmond Hospital.

I called and spoke with INV ROUBIEU who stated that they were investigating a shooting that allegedly occurred at [600 BLOCK] Old Summerville Rd. ROUBIEU advised that it was a 17 year old male (SCOTT FERGUSON) who had possibly accidentally shot himself in the leg. ROUBIEU advised that they were still actively investigating the incident, and would update me when he found out further.

At 1618 I received a call from INV B. WERNER who informed me that they had learned the incident occurred in the North side parking lot of the school near the woods, and that an individual had taken the gun and threw it into the woods. I immediately responded with K9 Jimmy with whom we are a certified firearm/narcotic detection K9 team.

Upon arrival, Jimmy and I cleared approximately 20 feet into the north tree line around the entire north side of the parking lot. After about 20 minutes of searching, I placed Jimmy back inside the vehicle for a short break. After about 10 minutes, I got Jimmy back out and we pushed deeper into the woods. Approximately 100 feet into the woods, I observed Jimmy have a change of behavior indicating he was detecting either firearm, or narcotic odor. Jimmy’s breathing changed, and he placed his nose in the air and began to bracket in a eastward direction.

Upon noticing this change of behavior, I repositioned myself behind Jimmy and he began to pull east approximately 50 feet with his nose in the air. Knowing this is the same behavior Jimmy shows when he is on firearm or narcotic odor, I went with him eastward through the woods. I observed Jimmy lower his nose and continue to pull east while rapidly sniffing the ground. I looked at the area where Jimmy was sniffing and made out a black and gray firearm. Jimmy sniffed the firearm and came to a final response (sit).

I observed the firearm, and noticed it had numerous rubber bands around the handle. I informed SGT WACKER, and INV GUZMAN, who were also in the woods searching for the firearm, that Jimmy had located the possible firearm. At this point, SGT WACKER and INV GUZMAN came to my location and secured the firearm. INV GUZMAN then collected the firearm and placed it into an evidence bag. I then returned Jimmy to our vehicle.

[NARRATIVE #3 on May 12, 2026]

Around 15:00 hours on the 12th of May, E911 dispatched officers to a 911 hang-up call at Armuchee School. While en route, I began calling the number that had made the initial hang-up call. After calling the number several times, the line opened. The only thing I could hear was rustling around and muffled voices in the background. The line disconnected shortly after. I then texted the number, stating that I was with FCPD, and asked if everything was okay. The person texted back stating that they were okay, their cousin was just playing on the phone.

Around 15:36, a gunshot wound of a 17-year-old white male was brought to Redmond Hospital. Shortly after the dispatched call, I responded to the hospital. As I entered Emergency Room 2, I met with Scott Ferguson. I asked him how this happened. He began to tell me that he was just cleaning a handgun for his aunt [REDACTED], and then the gun went off and shot him in the leg. He stated it happened at [600 BLOCK] Old Summerville Road in Armuchee.

Working in tandem, officers went to the address and began establishing a crime scene. After several attempts to locate the actual residence where the incident occurred, it became clear that Scott was not being truthful about the location. At this time, I learned that he had arrived with another juvenile [REDACTED BY AGENCY], who was his cousin. After speaking with Scott to get his initial statements, I left the room while the nursing staff gathered information about his injuries.

I located [REDACTED BY AGENCY] speaking with investigator Roubieu. I met with the two of them as he began to explain what really happened. He stated that Scott pulled up to the Armuchee school while trying to pick up his girlfriend. Scott got into the silver Volkswagen, which [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was driving at the time.

Once Scott got into the vehicle, he stated that he pulled out a black handgun and began manipulating the slide and the trigger. The gunshot hit his leg. The pair then began to panic, and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] made the 911 hang-up call before Scott told him to hang up. He said that’s when we kept calling him, and he would hang up while they were planning on what to do. He said Scott told him to get rid of the gun, then alleged that Scott threw it into the wooded area near the parking lot.

Once this information was provided, Officer Newport was contacted and dispatched with his dog to locate the firearm on campus. Later, the K-9 officer located the firearm. Located inside the firearm was a spent shell casing in the chamber, where it failed to eject due to the pressed contact it made with Scott’s leg.

While on scene, a search of the Volkswagen was completed, along with photos of the vehicle. A loaded magazine for a handgun was found in the back seat floorboard inside a black Nike Air Max 97 shoe. The magazine was unloaded and logged into evidence. A bullet hole inside the front passenger seat was documented and photographed, where the bullet entered and exited, and where Scott was sitting at the time he was shot.

After gathering all this new information and a final version of the truth, I then spoke with Scott again. At this time, his family was present and gave me permission to speak with him. He kept sticking to the same story until confronted with the truth and facts of the case. He then stated that he got the gun from [REDACTED], who is [REDACTED]’s father. [REDACTED] has been the suspect and arrested numerous times on weapons charges and was recently released from prison for firearm possession. Scott explained that he was able to have the firearm, and it wasn’t stolen, despite his being underage to possess the said firearm.

Scott was then arrested once released and medically cleared from the hospital. He was arrested for his role in being in possession and discharging a firearm on the premises of a school zone, along with being under the age of 18 while in possession of a firearm. The actions of his reckless nature in handling the firearm and allowing it to be discharged into an occupied vehicle on school grounds resulted in him being charged with reckless conduct as well.
