On 06/05/2024 at approximately 11:28 PM Dispatch advised Franklin County EMS and Lavonia PD units of a “fall” with head injury at the Ridgewood Hills apartments on Poole St. Upon arrival with a paramedic at approximately 11:32 PM in apartment [REDACTED] I observed a young man [REDACTED BY AGENCY] alone lying on a couch going in and out of consciousness. Strangely, although some people were outside in the parking lot a couple apartments down no one was around the victim nor anyone downstairs.
Myself and paramedics began asking who called 911, but no one would give an answer which is highly unusual for calls of medical accidents. I began asking people standing outside what they saw and they said “he fell off the scooter.” Officer Kruty informed me that someone had told him he may have been punched by a male subject in a green challenger.
Myself and Krudy interviewed the subject in question Shamarin Johnson as well as a female subject [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Johnson said that the victim was his cousin and stated that he had fallen from a scooter. I told him that someone said he had been hit he said he didn’t actually see it that he had turned around and people said he fell. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that Johnson didn’t hit the victim. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that she was the one who called 911.
Paramedics put [REDACTED BY AGENCY] on the ambulance as his mother [REDACTED BY AGENCY] arrived and began speaking to others in the complex about someone hitting her son. At approximately 11:53 the ambulance transported [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to St. Mary’s where I followed up with the mother in the Lobby. I told her to call if her son mentioned any altercation when he was in stable condition.
At approximately 12:50 AM a witness called dispatch requesting to speak to an officer. I called the witness [REDACTED BY AGENCY] who stated that a male subject named Keaton Maxwell had hit the victim. She said she obtained this information from other residents in the complex. She stated that she had heard commotion and walked outside to see “them carrying his limp body into the apartment.” She stated that the Landlord would be present in the morning if we wanted to review camera footage.
At approximately 2:24 AM I called the mother for a follow up who said that he was being moved to Athens Regional, that he had a fractured scull and brain bleed.
At approximately 3:12 AM I spoke with medical staff at Athens Regional who stated that he had been placed on a ventilator. I also spoke with the mother again who said he had been put in a medically induced coma. I then notified the investigations Lieutenant and informed him of the case and the information we had so far.
Forward to Investigations.
