On September 25th, 2026, I, Corporal Hughes #520 was notified by dispatch that EMS was responding to [REDACTED] in reference to Brodie Johnson being passed out on his porch. Dispatch advised me of this due to on September 22nd, 2026, EMS was dispatched to the residence and Brodie was becoming combative and law enforcement was needed. I advised dispatch to notify us if we were needed. Dispatch called back shortly after and stated EMS needed us to meet with them due to Brodie being passed out on the porch and his child being there unattended. I responded Code 3 (activated emergency lights and sirens).

Upon arrival, myself and Deputy Jesse Ledford #544 observed a shirtless Brodie Johnson stumbling around the yard stating we weren’t taking his son. When I was trying to talk to Brodie, I could see his eyes were bloodshot, watery, and his person smelled like alcohol. On scene, I also observed EMS personnel and [REDACTED] (Brodie Johnson’s ex mother-in-law). At this time [REDACTED] had put Brodie’s son, her grandson [JUVENILE #1] (a 2year-old male), in the back seat of her car. I advised Deputy Ledford to escort Brodie over to his porch so I could talk with EMS personnel about what they had observed. I talked to EMS personnel [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and [REDACTED]. All three stated when they arrived on scene Brodie was lying on the porch with a lit cigarette in his hand while his son, [JUVENILE #1], was under the porch by himself.

As I was talking to EMS, I observed Deputy Ledford trying to keep Brodie at his porch and Brodie was becoming more non-compliant. I then observed Deputy Ledford assist Brodie to the ground. At this time, I went over to assist Deputy Ledford in cuffing and securing Brodie. Due to testimony and physical evidence of Brodie, Brodie was placed under arrest. Deputy Ledford then transported Brodie to the Gilmer County Detention Center for processing. I then placed a phone call to [REDACTED] with DCFS and advised her of what took place. I advised her that the child was with [REDACTED] and she was taking her to [REDACTED], which is [JUVENILE #1]’s mother.

I left the scene and followed [REDACTED] to Ebenezer Baptist church where she was meeting [REDACTED] with [JUVENILE #1]. I arrived at the church and spoke with [REDACTED] about the incident and advised her a report would be completed. While talking to [REDACTED] she was holding [JUVENILE #1]. I observed [JUVENILE #1] to be dirty. [JUVENILE #1] had boogers, snot, and dirt all over his face. [JUVENILE #1] also had a diaper that was drooping down in which [REDACTED] was fixing to change while talking to me.

After gathering statements and making observations, Brodie will be charged with Cruelty to Children in the 2nd degree due to the neglect for his son. A DCFS report was completed.
