I, Detective Henson, was notified by Adult Protective Services Investigator J. Limbaugh, of a possible elder abuse event having been reported. Mr. Limbaugh provided me with a copy of the referral and I reviewed the forms. Mr. Limbaugh said he and Gilmer County Sheriff’s Deputy Carver had gone to the Adventure Trail residence and the victims were not present.
Mr. Limbaugh said he spoke with the suspect, Heath Lamar Sanford, who denied having been physically violent with the victim, [VICTIM #1], his mother. Mr. Sanford did admit to being verbal and using abusive language to his mother in the past.
I reviewed the agency Records Management System, RMS, and found reports involving actions committed against [VICTIM #1] by her son, Heath Sanford. In reviewing the documentation, I found the allegations were of loud screaming, yelling, cursing, abusive language, directed toward [VICTIM #1] by her son, Heath Sanford. [VICTIM #1] reported the events were unpredictable when they happened.
The referral documents also indicated there was possibly a seven year old grandson that had been witnessing the abuse in the household. I began my investigation.
