On July 15, 2026, I, Deputy Cooper, badge #521, was assigned to the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office UPD. I was dispatched at approximately 0402 hours for death threats at [REDACTED]. Gilmer advised that the victim stated that the suspect stated that they were going to get their grandpa’s gun and kill them. I responded code 1, non-emergency (no lights/no sirens).

I arrived on scene at approximately 0408 hours. I was met at the bottom of the driveway of [REDACTED] by the victims identified as Ariana Hajj, Anthony McCoy, Juvenile #1, age 14, and Juvenile #2, age 3. When I exited my patrol vehicle, unit #721, they stated that the suspect, identified as Marissa Akins, was at the top of the driveway and had a knife. I had Ms. Hajj, Mr. McCoy, Juvenile #1, and Juvenile #2 stand on the far side of my vehicle, furthest away from the driveway.

I advised dispatch and all other units responding that the suspect was potentially armed with a knife. At that point, I saw Ms. Akins walking towards the bottom of the driveway and told her to stay there and let me see her hands. Ms. Akins raised her hands and appeared to be disoriented and crying. Once Deputy Parks arrived, I approached Ms. Akins and detained her, secured her in handcuffs, checked for fit, and double-locked for everyone’s safety due to the information I was given by dispatch.

Once I had Ms. Akins detained, I could smell the strong odor of alcohol coming from her as she was talking. I asked Ms. Akins if she wanted to have a seat on the ground, and she stated yes, so I helped her to the ground to have a seat. I then asked Ms. Akins what had happened. She was still crying and kept telling me she was scared and to stop yelling at her. I told Ms. Akins that no one was yelling at her and tried to calm her down.

I asked again if she could explain to me what happened and if she could tell me if she had a knife at any point. Ms. Akins stated that she believed she did at one point but couldn’t remember. Ms. Akins still appeared very disoriented and stated she felt as if she was going to have a heart attack, so Deputy Parks advised dispatch she needed to be seen by EMS. I tried to talk to Ms. Akins, but couldn’t get much more information.

I then walked back to my patrol car, while Sgt. Humphries and Deputy Ledford sat with Ms. Akins. I asked Ms. Hajj, Mr. McCoy, and Juvenile #1 if they could tell me what happened. Mr. McCoy stated they had been drinking, and Ms. Akins wanted to go pick up her boyfriend, so they hid her keys since she had been drinking. Mr. McCoy stated that Ms. Akins then became upset and started yelling at Ms. Hajj, calling her a bit*h and cursing at her.

Mr. McCoy stated that’s when he stepped in between Ms. Akins and Ms. Hajj, and when he did, Ms. Akins smacked him in the face, so he hit her back, and she began fighting with him, shoving him to the ground. Mr. McCoy stated they fought on the ground for a brief moment, then separated, and that’s when Ms. Akins stated she was going to get a gun and kill all of them.

After Mr. McCoy heard Ms. Akins say that she was going to get a gun and kill all of them, he took her to the ground and rushed to Ms. Akins’s grandpa’s room, where the gun was supposed to be, and locked the door, so Ms. Akins couldn’t get in. Ms. Akins then got up off the ground and shoved Juvenile #1, so Mr. McCoy stepped in between them, and he and Ms. Akins got into another brief physical altercation.

Mr. McCoy stated that while he was fighting with Ms. Akins, Ms. Hajj was packing all their belongings they had brought and walked outside with Juvenile #1 and Juvenile #2, so he walked outside as well. When they got outside, Mr. McCoy stated that Ms. Akins followed them out with what appeared to be a switchblade knife. That’s when everyone but Ms. Akins walked down to the bottom of the driveway, and I arrived. After speaking with Mr. McCoy, I asked if he had been drinking as well, and he stated he had, but only had two shots of tequila, and that Ms. Hajj only had two beers.

I later found out that Ms. Akins’s grandpa was home but was downstairs during the altercation and that he was almost deaf, so he probably didn’t hear anything. Deputy Parks was able to make contact with the grandpa, who met with Deputy Parks and me in the garage located downstairs. While talking to the grandpa, he stated that he didn’t hear anything; he could just hear thuds, but he thought it was Juvenile #2 playing.

I asked Ms. Akins’s grandpa if I could view the camera footage from the cameras he had on the outside of the residence to see if it caught any of the altercation and to see if I could tell if Ms. Akins ever had a knife. While viewing the video footage from the cameras, I was unable to see any video of the altercation or whether she had a knife.

After speaking with all parties, Ms. Hajj called her dad to see if he could pick her, Mr. McCoy, Juvenile #1, and Juvenile #2, and it was determined that they could stay at the residence until they were picked up from the residence. Due to the circumstances of everyone drinking, I issued a county citation to Ms. Hajj and Mr. McCoy for drinking alcohol under age.

Due to Ms. Akins being under the influence of alcohol, stating she was going to kill victims, shoving Juvenile #1, the physical altercation with Mr. McCoy, and Mr. McCoy feeling threatened because Ms. Akins had a knife, and all of this happening in the presence of Juvenile #2 Ms. Akins was charged with the following:

I gave all victims a victim’s pamphlet/vine pamphlet with my name, badge number, case number, and today’s date. I explained to all parties that I would be doing a report on this incident. I told them that if they wanted a copy of this report, call the Gilmer County ADC in a few days and give them the case number, and if it was ready, they could pick up a copy of the report there. I also filled out a victims’ notification form for each victim, and Cpl. Sawyer took the paperwork to the jail to be filed.
