On the date of April 20, 2024 at approximately 10:55 pm, I Corporal Robinson #534 was advised by dispatch to do a welfare check in reference to a third party caller stating that his friend (a 14 y/o child) was being hit by his dad while his dad is drunk. I was in the area so I responded code one with no lights or sirens with Deputy Jump #545. Upon arrival I activated my body camera and the video in patrol unit #324.

I knocked on the door and asked the man that opened the door if he had a teenage son. The man (identified as Teak Gregory Geiger) said he did. I asked to speak with him. The man called out for the son. The son came to the door and I asked if he would walk around the car with me and talk. As soon as we walked to the opposite side of the vehicle the son started crying and stated that his dad had been drinking tonight and that it started out with them just wrestling.

He thought they were just wrestling until his dad kept going and would not stop. There were marks on the child’s neck, bruising and scratches on both sides. The child’s left eye was darkening with a knot on the left eye brow. There were two abrasions on the child’s back, one between the shoulder blades and one on the lower back with one on the child’s lower back. The child had a bruise in his right upper forearm and red marks on both upper arms consistent with pinched skin.

I spoke with Teak and he said that he was showing his son some wrestling moves as his son was having issues. He said that his son approached him with anger issues and how to control it, so he was just teaching his son. I then placed Teak in hand cuffs and advised him that he was being detained for the moment. I then walked Teak over to where Deputy Jump and his son were and showed him the markings on his son. Teak made a scoff noise and looked away.

I then walked Teak back over to the porch. Teak said his son got mad because he had been drinking and that is when his son started fighting him. Teak had a mark over his left eye. He said that he had gotten his son from the mother because she was very abusive to his son and his son was afraid of people who drink. I then advised Teak that he was being taken in to custody and the judge could sort it out as there was too much evidence to the contrary. Deputy Jump placed Teak in the rear of his patrol unit for transport to the Gilmer County Adult Detention Center.

The child then walked me through the apartment and explained his story. The child said that while they were in the kitchen, his dad was talking to him while he was at the closet to through away some trash. The dad shoved him into the closet but his foot was out when the dad shut the door on his foot. The child grabbed his foot and said a cuss word. The child said he apologized to the dad and the dad shoved him. The child is on the wrestling team so he thought dad was playing so he shoved dad back. Dad started wrestling with him in the living room floor when dad got him in a choke hold. Dad told the child he could tap out at any time. The child said that he tapped several times and dad would not let go so the child tried to hit the dad because he could not breathe.

The child said that he tapped the floor again several times before dad let go. Then dad grabbed him with his hand around his neck and pinned him to the television stand. The dad then started punching him with his other hand. The child said he started hitting back because dad would not stop. The child said that when he hit dad in the eye he finally let go. The child said he went up the stairs and locked the door and dad came in after him. Dad kicked the door open. The door frame was broken. The child said his dad started throwing things around the bedroom and then grabbed him by the neck again and pinned him to the bed. The child said that his dad said he was grounded and then left the room. The child then opened his computer and texted a friend to call the police for help.

I called EMS to check the child as he was grabbed by the neck and stated that he could not breathe three different times. They stated his vitals were good as well as his O2 level. The child said that he did not feel any pain except for his skin pain. Ems checked on the dad as well because he said his thumb was injured.

I then called DFCS as Teak said that they had no family in Georgia and no friends to help with the child. DFCS advised to see if the child had a local friend’s house he could stay at for the night. His friend that called in was still messaging him over the computer so he asked if he could go to his friend’s home. The mother approved and I had the child pack a bag. The information was given to DFCS as to where the child will be and a DFCS state referral was made.

Teak Geiger will be charged with Aggravated Assault F/V and Cruelty to Children in the first degree. A victim’s pamphlet was given with the case number on it.
