[NARRATIVE #1 on February 20, 2025]

I Officer Smith on 02/20/2025 responded to [800 BLOCK] P street in reference to an assault with a firearm. Upon arrival, I made contact with a juvenile identified as [VICTIM #1], who advised me he was hit in the head with a gun on Wolfe and K street.

[WITNESS #1] (Mother) advised me that [VICTIM #1] called her at 1845 Hrs and informed her that he had been hit in the head with a gun. Ms. [WITNESS #1] gave verbal consent for Officers to speak with [VICTIM #1] about the incident. [VICTIM #1] stated he was at a friends house later identified as [2100 BLOCK] Wolfe Street. [VICTIM #1] stated days before this incident he had given 15 Dollars to a male he identified as Da’Da to give to his cousin [REDACTED]. [VICTIM #1] stated while he was at [2100 BLOCK] Wolfe Street Da’Da approached him about the money stating he never gave the money to him. [VICTIM #1] stated when he told Da’Da he was lying, He cocked a black pistol under his arm and then struck [VICTIM #1] with the muzzle in his head.

[VICTIM #1] stated Da’Da struck him several times in the head with the pistol before taking off on foot. I observed a laceration on the with blood around the wound and slight bleeding from [VICTIM #1]’s left eyebrow. Squad was requested to the scene to check [VICTIM #1]’s injury. CID responded to the scene and a photograph of Da’Da’s instagram was shown to detectives. [VICTIM #1] confirmed to detectives that this was the male that hit him in the face with the gun. Da’Da was later identified by CID as Derek Steele (D.O.B [REDACTED]). A case number was provided to Ms. [WITNESS #1] and officers departed the scene.

I then responded to [2100 BLOCK] Wolfe Street with CID where the incident was reported to have occurred. Upon arrival, Contact was made with [WITNESS #2] and [WITNESS #3] who confirmed that [VICTIM #1] was there and he saw them fighting out front of the house. Ms. [WITNESS #3] stated she heard commotion outside, but did not go to check it out. Mr. [WITNESS #2] had no further details to provide other than there was a fight that had occurred.

I requested a Criminal History on Derek Steele and discovered he was charged with Possession of pistol or revolver by person under 18 years old on Jan 15th 2024 Case #24BP01483 but discovered no additional history involving a firearm.

[NARRATIVE #2 on April 10, 2025]

On 04/10/2025 Lt Daniel’s asked me to look into this as he and myself had been on scene on the date of the incident. On 02/20/25 When Ofc. Smith called me out and stated there was a juvenile that had been assaulted by a male who he knew by a nick name and had a photo of but did not know his real name. The photo was shown to me and through another CID detective we were able to verify the suspect was Derek Steele.

A warrant for aggravated assault was obtained on 04/10/2025 which was checked over by Lt. Daniel’s for accuracy. Derek was located at Risley Annex School and was placed under arrest by myself. He was transported to CDC where all paperwork was turned over to them.
