On 27 May 2026 at approximately 0030, I responded to the hospital in reference to an assault.
Upon my arrival, I met with [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] was severely beaten, with a deep laceration to the head, multiple bruises and bumps on the face and head, and a broken arm. Officer L. Owens conducted the initial interview while I spoke with the individual still in the lobby who dropped him off at the hospital ([WITNESS #1]).
Interview with [WITNESS #1]:
[WITNESS #1] stated she was on her way home on Jessica Lane when she saw a white male in the middle of the road. He was sitting in the middle of Jessica Lane bleeding from the head. She asked him what happened, and he told her he was shot, or stabbed, or run over by a vehicle. She gave him a ride to the hospital, but she could never get the full story out of him. She dropped him off and waited in the lobby.
I asked for details about the location she found him. She said he was about four houses down from her address, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] but didn’t know exactly. She told me he lives at [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in the backyard in a shed with his brother [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. She stated she didn’t know what happened. I gathered her identifying information, and she requested to leave. I had no reason to keep her on scene, so I allowed her to leave.
I spoke with Officer L. Sanchez, who stated [VICTIM #1] became aggressive with her and didn’t wish to have any law enforcement involved. Sgt. B. Rusch contacted the Criminal Investigation Division to fill them in on the situation. [VICTIM #1] was taken back for X-rays on his arm. When he came back, I decided to try and talk with him one more time.
Interview with [VICTIM #1]:
[VICTIM #1] was in a lot of pain from the broken arm. He wouldn’t let me know what happened because the individuals that did this to him said they would kill him and everyone close to him if he went to the police. I convinced him we were here to help, and he finally told me what happened.
[VICTIM #1] stated [REDACTED BY AGENCY], [WITNESS #1], and he live at the same house. [WITNESS #1] doesn’t like him living there, but [REDACTED BY AGENCY] actually owns the property and told her that [VICTIM #1] was fine to stay. [VICTIM #1] made a smart remark about [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [WITNESS #1] sleeping together, and [WITNESS #1] got mad. A few hours later, he was stripping copper wire on the front porch of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] when he felt something on the back of his head like something had bitten him. He fell to the ground, and when he looked up, it was “DJ” standing over him with what he thought was a “big a*s pipe wrench.” He continued to beat him with a couple of other guys.
The only one he could identify for sure was DJ. I asked for DJ’s real name, and he said he couldn’t because he would kill him and his family. Finally, I convinced him to give me the real name “Donovan.” He didn’t know the last name but said it started with a “J” or “G.” Donovan Jack Gibson is a well-known individual in Glynn County.
He did state that [WITNESS #1] didn’t participate in the beating but did watch the whole thing happen. Gibson told him before he left to let him die while he was screaming for help on the ground. Gibson and his friends left the scene right after, out of the front gate. [VICTIM #1] continued to scream for help in the middle of the complex, but no one would help. [WITNESS #1] decided he wasn’t going to die, so she took him to the hospital for help.
Before I could ask more, he faded to sleep.
CID was notified and took over the investigation.
