On January 31, 2025, I responded to 5272 New Jesup Highway (Economy Inn) in reference to a problem person. Upon arrival, I spoke with front desk staff informing me that Lovyce Diego Mack was at the location causing problems for guests. He previously was staying in one of the rooms but was unable to pay his bill, so he was removed. While I was speaking with a staff member a black male was crying profusely in the corner. I went and spoke with him.
The male was [VICTIM #1]. Mr. [VICTIM #1] informed me that he was staying in [REDACTED BY AGENCY] babysitting [REDACTED BY AGENCY] While in the room, Mr. Mack came knocking on the door. He cracked the door and asked, “What’s going on” Mr. [VICTIM #1] responded, “What’s going on love” Mr. Mack responded, “Na there is something fishy going on!” slamming his body into the door pushing Mr. [VICTIM #1] away and forcing entry into the room. Mr. Mack pulled out a knife with a black handle trying to slash Mr. [VICTIM #1] in a crisscross pattern. Mr. [VICTIM #1] said he was able to retreat further into the room to protect the 5-year-old child [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in the room. Mr. Mack made his way further into the room still wielding the knife taking a black and silver Samsung Galaxy S6 from the child. He then left the scene. During the interview, Mr. [VICTIM #1] was able to physically identify Mr. Mack walking across the street from Mr. [REDACTED] to the Super 8 hotel. I told Mr. [VICTIM #1] to stay here while I went and detained Mr. Mack.
Officer C. Henley and I quickly made our way to Mr. Mack placing him in handcuffs. During the search incident to arrest I located a large black pocket knife, a black and silver Samsung Galaxy S6, and a blue charger in his jacket pocket. I then went back to the hotel to speak with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] She was traumatized from the incident and didn’t wish to speak about it to begin with. She eventually told me that Mr. Mack entered the room without asking and started fighting with a knife. He then went and took the phone from her.
I went and asked the front desk for any video footage from the hall. They informed me that it would take them some time to locate the footage.
Mr. Mack was transported to Glynn County Headquarters. There he was read and signed a Miranda waiver form. He informed me that Mr. [VICTIM #1] was hacking into his phone stealing money from his accounts. He decided to take matters into his own hands to steal his phone. He claims that once he forced entry to the room Mr. [VICTIM #1] pulled a knife, so he pulled out his. He then took the phone and left the room.
Mr. [MACK] was then transported to the Glynn County Detention Center. There he was booked and handed over to Detention Center Staff.
Both Mr. [VICTIM #1] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] mother were provided victim’s bill of rights. The Samsung Phone and charger were returned to [REDACTED].
