On the above date at approximately 2231 hours responded to 6900 Hwy 99 Brunswick Ga, Bucees in reference to a call involving a juvenile.

Upon arrival at Bucee’s, I made contact with [WITNESS #1], the complainant and driver of the bus. [WITNESS #1] stated that a female passenger, later identified as [WITNESS #2], came to the front of the bus and reported that a white male who appeared to be intoxicated had grabbed a child and then touched a female passenger inappropriately.

[WITNESS #1] stated that he followed company procedures by pulling the bus into the nearest parking lot. He then attempted to make contact with the male; however, the male locked himself inside the restroom. [WITNESS #1] further stated that another passenger advised him that the male may have been armed with a weapon, possibly a firearm. Due to this information, [WITNESS #1] evacuated all passengers from the bus.

Upon my arrival, I observed the male seated on the bus with his hands raised. Due to the report that the male may have been armed, I entered the bus with my service weapon drawn and issued verbal commands for the male, later identified as Mark Nelson of Savannah, Georgia, to stand up, face away from me, and lift his shirt so I could observe his waistband. Nelson complied and was detained in handcuffs without incident.

At my patrol vehicle, I advised Nelson of his Miranda rights due to him being detained in handcuffs. When asked if he was willing to answer questions, Nelson remained silent. Nelson was then placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle with the in-car camera activated while I continued my investigation.

I then made contact with the victims, [VICTIM #1] and her husband, [VICTIM #2]. They stated they were seated across from Nelson when, without provocation, Nelson stood up, reached over, grabbed their one-year-old daughter, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] by her shirt, and attempted to pull her from her mother’s lap. They further stated that when [VICTIM #1] intervened, Nelson reached toward her and grabbed her right breast.

I also spoke with [WITNESS #2], who originally reported the incident to the bus driver. [WITNESS #2] stated she observed Nelson stand up, grab the child, and then grab Ms. [VICTIM #1] on the breast.

Based on the statements provided by the victims and witness, all of whom provided consistent accounts of the incident, probable cause was established to arrest Mark Nelson. I returned to my patrol vehicle and advised Nelson that he was under arrest for Simple Battery and Sexual Battery.

Nelson was transported to the Glynn County Detention Center, where he was booked and turned over to jail staff without incident. The victims were provided with a Victim’s Bill of Rights. Warrants were secured for Nelson.
