On 07/09/2026 I responded to 360 Mall Blvd (Side Pokkets) in reference to a problem person.
I made contact with Officer D. Runner #195 and the manager of the business who stated there was a black male, later identified as NIJA THOMAS, yelling and being belligerent inside. Officer D. Runner stated he could hear the male yelling from outside when he arrived and there were multiple customers who were standing outside to get away from Mr. Thomas. The manager advised they had asked Mr. Thomas to leave multiple times, but Mr. Thomas refused multiple times.
Officer D. Runner and I went inside the bar and made contact with Mr. Thomas and advised him he was being criminally trespassed and needed to leave the business. Mr. Thomas yelled he wanted a refund for his drink and I advised him he could take the business to civil court for his refund but he needed to leave. Mr. Thomas continued to yell and stated he would leave once we were gone. I advised him that if he did not leave on his own, we would remove him from the bar.
Mr. Thomas refused all warnings to leave the bar so Officer D. Runner and I grabbed Mr. Thomas’s arms and began trying to walk him out of the bar. Mr. Thomas immediately began resisting us and continued to try and pull away from officers. Mr. Thomas continued to yell and state he was watching the game and refuse officer’s commands. Due to Mr. Thomas still trying to pull away from officers, Officer D. Runner began pulling Mr. Thomas to the ground.
Once Mr. Thomas was on the ground, we ordered him to put his hands behind his back. Mr. Thomas continued to refuse and pulled his hands away from officers. I drew my department issued taser and activated the warning light and laser. I advised Mr. Thomas that if he did not put his hands behind his back, he would be tased. Mr. Thomas continued to refuse commands so I deployed two darts from my department issued taser. The first dart was deployed making contact with his right mid torso and the second dart was deployed making contact with right upper calf. The two darts completed the connection causing successful neuromuscular incapacitation (NMI).
Mr. Thomas went into a full body lock up due to the NMI, laying on his back and flailing his arms around. Mr. Thomas rolled onto his back after the first five second activation from my department issued taser. I ordered Mr. Thomas once again to put his hands behind his back. I took control of Mr. Thomas’s left hand, but Mr. Thomas still refused to put his right hand behind his back, pulling it away from officers. I re-activated my taser and asked Mr. Thomas if he was done resisting. Mr. Thomas yelled “yeah” so I deactivated the second activation before the five seconds was complete.
I holstered my department issue taser and went to grab Mr. Thomas’s right hand to place it behind his back and put him in handcuffs. Once I placed the handcuffs on Mr. Thomas’s left hand, Mr. Thomas began pulling his right hand away from me again. Officer D. Runner and I were able to secure the right hand and successfully handcuff both hands behind Mr. Thomas’s back.
Officer D. Runner and I stood Mr. Thomas up and began walking him outside of the bar to the front of my patrol vehicle. Once we were at the front of my patrol vehicle, I began searching Mr. Thomas incident to arrest, while Officer D. Runner held him against the front of my patrol vehicle due to him still trying to pull away from officers. After the search, I removed the two darts from Mr. Thomas and placed them into an evidence bag.
I requested Glynn County Fire/EMS to the scene in case Mr. Thomas needed any medical attention due to being tased. They arrived on scene but were advised I would be transporting Mr. Thomas to the hospital before transporting him to the Glynn County Detention Center by SGT. J. Kruger, and they were able to clear the scene.
I obtained Mr. Thomas’s driver’s license and placed the rest of his property inside of my patrol vehicle to take with us to the Glynn County Detention Center. Inside Mr. Thomas’s right pants pocket was a black fixed blade knife that was loose and un-holstered. Seeing as the Glynn County Detention Center would not take the knife with the rest of his property, Officers seized the knife and stored it into the Glynn County Police Department Evidence Locker under property number 26-06963. Mr. Thomas was advised that he would be able to set an appointment with the evidence technicians to retrieve his knife when he got out of jail.
After Mr. Thomas was searched incident to arrest, he was placed in the back seat of my patrol vehicle and I advised Glynn County Dispatch Service to issue the criminal trespass warning for Side Pokkets against Mr. Thomas. Officer Runner took possession of the knife and the two taser darts and transported them back to GCPD headquarters where they were submitted into the GCPD Evidence Locker. The property number for the two taser darts is 26-06964.
I transported Mr. Thomas to the Southeast Georgia Health Systems Emergency Room to obtain a jail clearance form for the Glynn County Detention Center. While at the emergency room, Mr. Thomas continued to yell and scream profanities at officers and emergency room staff. Mr. Thomas was told to stop yelling and disturbing the peace, but he continued to do so.
Once the jail clearance form was obtained, I transported Mr. Thomas to the Glynn County Detention Center where he was transferred into the custody of the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest and booking sheet, SOVI, and cover page of the jail clearance form were photographed and uploaded to evidence.com.
I will be charging Mr. Thomas and have drafted arrest warrants for the following offenses:
