Pizza Chelas permit suspended for roach infestation

LILBURN – A Lilburn restaurant had their permit suspended by the Gwinnett County Health Department Monday after the inspector noted “alive roaches walking around the utensils, floors, and walls”.

The following was taken from the March 8, 2021 health inspection report of Pizza Chelas, located at 3907 Burns Rd NW Suite 9 in Lilburn, GA. This inspection was conducted by the Gwinnett Health Department.

The restaurant scored a 56% on this routine inspection. A follow up inspection has been scheduled for today.

Observations & Corrective Actions

  1. Person in charge (PIC) was not in the place when the inspection started. There must be a person in charge on the premises of the food service establishment at all times.
    Corrective Actions: PIC arrived during inspection.
  2. Observed handwashing sink in bathroom without hot water. See temperature log. A handwashing sink shall be equipped to provide tempered water at a temperature of at least 100ºF (38ºC) through a mixing valve or combination faucet.
    Corrective Actions: An informal will conducted within 10 days.
  3. Observed in freezer raw fish and raw shrimp over ready-to-eat items. Observed in the walk-in cooler unwashed vegetables over ready-to-eat food. Observed raw beef and raw chicken over ready-to-eat food (chicken soup).
    Corrective Actions: Items were organized according with the internal cooking temperature.
  4. Observed breakfast menu serving eggs medium well without consumer advisory at the bottom of the menu.
    Corrective Actions: An informal will conducted within 10 days.
  5. Observed TCS foods stored at room temperature, as cheese with pork, cheese with beans, and cheese. 
    Corrective Actions: Items were discarded.
  6. Observed items on hot holding with temperatures below 135°F. 
    Corrective Actions: Items were reheated at 165°F.
  7. Observed items cooked 2 or 3 days ago without date marks.
    Corrective Actions: Items were labeled with prep dates during inspection.
  8. Observed working containers without identification with common names.
    Corrective Actions: An informal will conducted within 10 days.
  9. Observed avocados stored as clean with stickers on it. One of the avocados was cut with the sticker.
    Corrective Actions: The cut avocado was discarded. Others avocados were cleaned and the stickers were removed.
  10. Inspection report was not posted in public viewing.
    Corrective Actions: Today’s inspection report will be posted in public viewing.
  11. Observed alive roaches walking around the utensils, floors, and walls. Permit was suspended due to roaches infestation.
    Corrective Actions: An informal will be conducted on 03/10/2021.
