On the day of 6/2/2026 I responded to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in reference to a toddler walking along the roadway. I arrived on scene and spoke with caller/ witness [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated he was driving on Dicks Hill Parkway in the area of first street and seen a kid walking along the roadway, almost walking in traffic. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated he stopped his truck and got out with the kid, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated he called 911 and the kid began to walk from the roadway and down to a trailer. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated the kid whom looked to be 2-3yrs of age then walked up to the door of the trailer, opened the door and walked inside.

[REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated he got out and knocked on the door to make sure the child belonged to the home all while on the phone with dispatch. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated several minutes later law enforcement arrived on scene. I arrived on scene and interviewed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and then went to the home of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Mt Airy Ga.

I arrived on scene and spoke with mother of child Isabel Mateo; due to language barrier the conversation was continued by google translate. I asked Isabel if she was the mother of the child that walked inside, Isabel stated she was and that she fell asleep and didn’t know he was out the house. I asked Isabel did she know how long the child was gone and she stated she did not.

I contacted DFACS and spoke with agent [REDACTED], [REDACTED] stated for me to send the information of the child and mother and she would do a follow up at a later date, in the mean time to turn the child over to the father on scene. I text [REDACTED] all the information needed and turned the child over to the father.

Isabel Mateo was placed under arrest for the following:

  1. Cruelty to Children 1st degree (Unsupervised Child)

Handcuffs were sized and double locked for her comfort and she was escorted to the Habersham County Detention Center for booking and processing.
