On May 17th, 2026 at approximately 0149 hours, I was conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 75 North at mile marker 213 when I observed a Blue 2006 Ford Mustang (GA Plate: [REDACTED]) traveling north on Interstate 75 at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. Using proper tracking techniques, a speed of 94 MPH in a 70 MPH zone was verified by LIDAR (Pro Laser, Serial #.F12577). I initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 75 North at mile marker 214.
Upon approaching the vehicle, I observed three children in the back seat, the one sitting in the center did not have a safety belt on. The other two children were properly restrained. I made contact with the driver and advised her of the reason for the stop. I asked the driver for her driver’s license and she stated that she did not have one on her person. I asked for her name and date of birth and she initially provided me with the name of [REDACTED] and with a date of birth of [REDACTED]. While talking to the driver, I detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath.
A check through NCIC/GCIC returned information that the name provided was not the driver of the vehicle. The information she provided came back to a w/f. At that time, I asked the driver to write her name and date of birth on a piece of paper and she wrote Makayla Calhoun. A check through NCIC/GCIC returned information that Ms. Calhoun had a valid Georgia drivers license (GA OLN: [REDACTED]). I asked Ms. Calhoun to step out of the vehicle which she agreed to do.
I advised Ms. Calhoun I had detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage about her breath and asked her if she would be willing to participate in a series of evaluations to make sure she was safe to drive. Ms. Calhoun stated that she would be willing to participate. I asked Ms. Calhoun if she had any recent head injuries, vision issues or any limitations that would prevent her from performing a serious of walking or balancing tests and she stated “No” to all of the questions.
The first evaluation was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. I explained to Ms.Calhoun what I needed her to do and she stated that she understood. Ms.Calhoun’s eyes were checked for equal tracking and equal pupil size. Ms. Calhoun displayed equal pupil size and equal tracking. Ms. Calhoun was checked for resting nystagmus.
Ms. Calhoun displayed a lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes. Ms. Calhoun displayed distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation. Ms. Calhoun displayed the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. I did not check for vertical nystagmus. Ms. Calhoun kept moving her head during the evaluation.

The second evaluation was the Walk and Turn evaluation. I explained and demonstrated what I wanted Ms. Calhoun to do and she stated that she understood.
Ms. Calhoun displayed both clues during the instructional stage of the Walk and Turn. Ms. Calhoun failed to walk heel to toe five times, conducted an improper turn, and conducted the improper amount of steps. She only took five steps each direction.

The third evaluation was the One Leg Stand. I explained and demonstrated what I wanted Ms. Calhoun to do and she stated that she understood.

The evaluations were completed on a flat level surface free of defects and debris.
Based on my observations of Ms. Calhouns tests, I believed she was a less safe driver and was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Ms. Calhoun was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Ms. Calhoun was placed in handcuffs that were double locked and checked for proper fit. Ms. Calhoun was read the Georgia Implied Consent Notice (Green Card) for suspects age 21 or over for a state administered test of her breath. Ms. Calhoun refused to take the state test.
Ms. Calhoun was searched by a female officer, placed in the back seat of my patrol vehicle, in a safety belt and transported to the Henry County Jail for processing. The back seat of my patrol vehicle was checked prior to and after transport.
Ms. Calhoun was issued four citations for Speeding, Safety Restraint/Minor Over 6 to 18 YOA, No License on Person, an DUI-Less Safe.
Ms. Calhoun was also issued a DDS Form 1205 notifying her of her license suspension for refusal to submit to state administered testing. Ms. Calhouns drivers license was not collected due to her not having it on her person.
The blue 2006 Ford Mustang was released to the registered owner [REDACTED] who was in the car. Ms. Calhoun’s children were also released with Ms. Calhoun’s permission to Mr. [REDACTED].
