[NARRATIVE #1 on July 10, 2026]

On July 10, 2026, I conducted a traffic stop on Bill Gardner Parkway.

While leaving the QuikTrip on Bill Gardner Parkway, I observed a black Mercedes-Benz leaving the parking lot without its headlights activated. After I pulled behind the vehicle, the driver turned the headlights on but failed to use a turn signal while changing lanes. I activated my emergency lights and siren and advised dispatch of the traffic stop. The vehicle stopped at the Comfort Suites.

A registration check revealed the vehicle was registered to Briauna Scott. As I approached the vehicle, I observed that the registered owner was also the driver. I informed Scott of the reason for the traffic stop. I requested her driver’s license but she told me she did not have one in her possession. While speaking with her, I detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and the odor of marijuana emitting from her person and/or the vehicle. I also observed that her eyes appeared droopy. When asked about the odors and the condition of her eyes, Scott stated that she had recently undergone eye surgery.

I contacted Sgt. Shumate, who is certified in DUI investigations. Sgt. Shumate conducted standardized field sobriety evaluations, and based on the results, determined that Scott was driving under the influence. Sgt. Shumate also checked the window tint on Scott’s vehicle. The tint meter registered 6% on the driver’s window.

A search of Scott’s vehicle was conducted, during which a misdemeanor amount of marijuana was located. Scott was issued citations for DUI- Less Safe, Window tint, Failure to Exibit License on Demand, Turn Signal Violation, and Possesion of Marijauna.

Scott was transported to the Henry County Jail. The marijuana was placed into LGPD evidence.

[NARRATIVE #2 on July 10, 2026]

On 7/10/26 I assisted Officer Burnett with a traffic stop at the Comfort Suites. When I arrived Burnett said that he suspected that the driver, Briauna Scott was impaired. I approached and made contact with Scott. I immediately detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emmitting from her breath as she spoke.

I had Scott exit the vehicle for furthur investigation. I told Scott to stand in front on Burnett’s patrol vehicle but she continued walking towards the driver’s door. I had to tell her multiple times to stand in front.

I asked Scott about alcohol consumption but she denied use. Her eyes were barely open, glassy and bloodshot. I asked about contacts and Scott said she was wearing them. She mentioned a previous eye surgery but confirmed she could see my finger.

I asked Scott if she would perform evaluations to better gauge her ability to operate a motor vehicle. I conducted the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. I observed equal pupil size and that her eyes tracked equally. I observed lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, distinct and sustained nystagmus in both eyes and onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes. Due to her unsteadiness on her feet I elected to obtain a preliminary breath test. I had explained to Scott how to provide a sample multiple times but she refused to cooperate and tried to circumvent the device my not blowing into the tube.

Scott was arrested for DUI- Less Safe. She was handcuffed by Officer Burnett. I read Scott the appropriate GA implied Consent Notice and she agreed to provide a blood sample.

Officer Burnett and I inventoried Scott’s vehicle. I located a medicine bottle with Scott’s name that contained several oxycodone pills. Burnett located two small bags of suspected marijuana. I placed the oxycodone back in the vehicle. Corner Lot Towing responded and impounded Scott’s vehicle.

Burnett transported Scott to the Locust Grove Police Department to obtain a GBI Evidence Submission Kit. While at that location Scott told Burnett that she was refusing a blood test.
