On 07/06/2026 at approximately 2046 hours, I, Officer Prescott with the McDonough Police Department, was patrolling the area of Highway 20 and Highway 81 West, within the city limits of McDonough, Henry County, Georgia. This incident has been closed by arrest.
While patrolling, I observed a black Infiniti QX60 bearing Georgia registration [REDACTED]. A GCIC check revealed the vehicle’s registration was suspended. Based on that information, I conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. After the vehicle came to a stop, I approached the driver’s side and made contact with the driver, who was later identified as David Rawlings.
During my initial contact with Mr. Rawlings, he repeatedly provided false identifying information, including an incorrect full name. Due to his refusal to accurately identify himself, I asked him to exit the vehicle and placed him under arrest. He was handcuffed with his hands behind his back. The handcuffs were checked for proper fit and double-locked.
After being placed under arrest, I again asked Mr. Rawlings to provide his identifying information. He stated his name was “Dave Raw” and admitted that the date of birth he had previously provided belonged to his wife. Because he continued providing false information, I was initially unable to positively identify him. After exhausting all available means to identify him and after a family member arrived on scene, I advised Mr. Rawlings of the charges he was facing. Shortly thereafter, once my sergeant arrived on scene, Mr. Rawlings provided his correct date of birth. A subsequent GCIC check confirmed his identity and revealed that his Georgia driver’s license was suspended.
Mr. Rawlings was transported to the Henry County Jail, where he was released into the custody of jail staff without incident. His vehicle was released to a family member who responded to the scene. I conducted a rear seat inspection of my patrol vehicle before and after transport, and no contraband or property was located. Mr. Rawlings made no complaints of injury during the handcuffing or transport process. Nothing further to report. This incident has been closed by arrest.
