On 07/23/2026 at approximately 2157 hours, I, Deputy D. Stephens of the Houston County Sheriffs Office, conducted a traffic stop by utilizing my emergency blue lights and sirens on a green 2003 Ford F150 with license plate number [REDACTED] for failure to maintain lane on Interstate 75 Southbound at the 135 Exit. The aforementioned vehicle was riding on and crossing the solid white line on the far right-hand side in the right lane of travel. From my vehicle’s position in the center lane, I did not see any debris or road defects that would reasonably explain the drivers maneuvers.
The vehicle’s final stop was at 403 Marshallville Rd.
Upon making contact with the driver, Alejandro Sanchez Tapia, it became apparent through initial interviewing that there was a severe language barrier. I was, however, able to ask Alejandro for his license, registration, and proof of insurance.
At this time, Deputy M. Davis arrived at the scene to assist.
Alejandro then produced an Oregon ID card and was unable to provide proof of insurance. After getting Alejandros ID, I ran his information through central dispatch. When central dispatch returned with their findings, they advised that the vehicle had a suspended registration, no valid insurance, and that Alejandro did not have a valid drivers license.
Upon being advised of these findings, I asked Alejandro to exit the vehicle. Once Alejandro was out of the vehicle, I placed him under arrest by putting his hands behind his back and placing my handcuffs on his wrists. After completing this action, I checked the handcuffs for fit and double-locked them for safety.
Once handcuffed, I conducted a search incident to arrest on Alejandros person and found no contraband.
After completing the search, I requested the south end on-call tow company to tow the vehicle due to not having valid insurance and a suspended license plate.
I then secured Alejandro in the back of my patrol car for transport to the Houston County Detention Center for further processing. He was then transported without incident.
While transporting Alejandro, Deputy Davis remained at the scene for Mike Wells Towing to arrive. He also completed a tow log sheet and an inventory search, where no contraband was located.
Upon arrival at the detention center, I completed the necessary paperwork for admission, including issuing citations for OCGA 40-5-121 (driving with a suspended license), OCGA 40-6-10 (failure to provide proof of insurance), OCGA 40-6-48 (failure to maintain lane), and OCGA 40-6-15 (driving with suspended registration). Once the paperwork was completed, I turned Alejandro over to the detention staff for further processing.
