On June 21, 2026 at approximately 9:15 P.M. I was dispatched to [1700 BLOCK] S.R. 18 West in reference to an Accident.
I arrived on scene at 9:29 P.M. and saw that it was a single vehicle accident. A white Ford F-150 was down an embankment with the rear of the vehicle sitting near the tree line and the front of the vehicle facing the roadway. I pull my patrol car to a safe place with my emergency lights turned to “cruise” so that the strobing lights would not affect other drivers and the vehicle can still be seen.
I made my way down the embankment and made contact with the driver who identified herself as Crystal Sandifer, I made sure she was fine and did not need to be checked out medically. Crystal stated that she was fine. I asked Crystal where she was heading to and she stated that she was going to get her clothes from where she was staying but has been kicked out of. Once Crystal started looking at me as she would talk I noticed that her eyes were very droopy and very slow to any response. I smelled cigars more than anything else at that time, however, I asked if I could just run a few tests to make sure that she is good for driving and she agreed, but she kept saying that she was just very tired.
I made sure that she under stood that an impaired driver and a sleepy driver look the same and that is why I would like to check and make sure she is good for driving.She exits the vehicle and I see that she had wet her shorts, I asked if she has a habit of wetting herself and she said it is water that she spilled on herself. It smelled like urine to me when I was downwind from her making sure that she did not fall down the embankment as we were trying to get to a better place to do Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Once we got to the top of the hill and she got her breath back I began doing SFST’s and then I started smelling the alcohol coming from her breath.

Medically Cleared Crystal stated that she had been in a physical altercation with her ex and she hit the side of her head on the ground about 2-3 weeks earlier.

I asked if there is anything medically that might keep Crystal from being able to perform the task of standing on one foot. She stated that her equal Librium is off and that the road is slanted. I advised her that I would take those things into consideration, however, I also brought it to her attention that I had been standing in the one leg position the whole time I was asking her these questions.

After completing the tests I advised Crystal that she was under arrest for DUI, she stated “are you kidding me?” I replied “No, you are very intoxicated.” She then admitted to having a few drinks before driving. I placed Crystal in hand cuffs behind her back and placed her in the rear seat area of my patrol car (22-2), however, due to the small seat because of having a K-9 Kennel she asked if I could move the cuffs to the front. I did not minddoing that because Crystal had been very cooperative with me.
I read Crystal implied Consent notice for Suspects age 21 or Over. Crystal refused a Blood Draw due to her being a recovering alcoholic and her numbers may be high. I advised Dispatch Implied Consent was read and she refused, so I would be seeking a Search Warrant for the Blood Draw. Crystal then stated that she will do the Blood Draw. I advised Dispatch to get a nurse enroute because Crystal has changed her mind. I advised Dispatch that I would need a Wrecker for the vehicle and Animal Control for the dogs.
49 Wrecker Service arrived and got the truck out of the ditch and Animal Control arrived and got one of the dogs, however, the other dog got away when I was first getting Crystal out of the truck so that we could go up the hill to better ground for the SFST’s to be done in a way that would give her the best chance to give accurate results in her favor. I was had been trying to work with Crystal to get her dog back in the truck, however, I had to continue with my job of keeping her safe and coordinating the other events so that a wreck would not happen and everyone gets where they need to be. Once the wrecker got the truck loaded up and gone, I cleared all of the traffic, then I got Crystal out of the patrol car to see if she could call Copper the dog so that Animal Control could get him to safety.
However, Crystal began telling me that she needs the truck so that Copper could hear it running and he would come. I advised her that we had the truck running and drove it onto the rollback wrecker and Copper did not come, I asked if she could call the dog, she stated that it will not work she needs the truck. I then put Crystal back in the rear seat area of my patrol car. I advised [REDACTED] with Animal Control that if she were to go park in the driveway of [1700 BLOCK] then Copper may come to her after I am gone. I got back in the car and Crystal began telling me “if yall lose my dog then I am suing the county” I replied “that is fine, but it is your fault to begin with, you are the one that was driving after drinking and had the accident.”
I advised Dispatch that I was enroute to the Jones County LEC with one white female, gave my starting mileage, I advised that the vehicle was turned over to 49 Wrecker Service. Once we arrived at the LEC I advised of my ending mileage and I turned Crystal over to the jail staff.
Nurse [REDACTED] arrived and we went to the room located in the jail to do the Blood Draw. Everything was recorded on my body camera. Crystal Sandifer wanted to know what her BAC would be, I told her that I am not In-tox certified but I could do a PBT to give her an idea of where her level of intoxication would be. I advised her that due to almost 2 hours going by since I did SFST’s the numbers may show lower than what I was seeing on the side of the road and it will not change anything at this point, she stated that she understood but she still wanted to know. I administered the PBT and it read 0.208 she was shocked at that number, she did not think she was that bad off, I told her that she was worse than she is now when I first got to her and did SFST’s on her. Crystal said “yeah, wow I cannot believe that.”
Crystal also stated that she was just trying to get to Juliette to get her clothes. I said “Juliette?” she said “Yeah, about 4 miles from Fried Green Tomatoes.” I advised her that she was on the wrong road for going to Juliette. She still thought that she was in Monroe County, I had to remind her that she is in Jones County. The she stated “Oh, I was supposed to be on the other road.” I stated “Yes, HWY 87 to Juliette Rd.” I went back in service. Crystal Sandifer is being charged with DUI Less Safe.
