On April 7, 2026, I, Deputy Morgan was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Stone Edge Dr. in reference to a to a call in reference to a mental subject, having an outbreak and destroying his grandparents house.
While en route, I contacted Dispatch to try to gather further information on the subject and see if we had a extensive history at the residence to which I was informed deputies have been out there multiple times along with medical personnel and that the person who is having the outbreak was known to carry a knife. Dispatch also informed me that the grandparents were in fear of their well-being.
Upon arrival, I noticed a white male matching the description dart back into the residence through the garage. I then entered the residence due to hearing yelling. I announce it was a sheriffs office and made entry to the house through the unlocked door in the garage upon making contact with the male subject that I observed run back into the house. he stated he did not call me here and turn towards the front door.
As he reached the front door, I instructed him if he did not stop. He would be tased, and he fled on foot out the front door, slamming the door behind him. I I notified Dispatch I was in a foot pursuit, and as we rounded the south east corner of the house. I deployed my taser two times neither cartridge having an effective impact. I then notified Dispatch of the taser deployment, and that neither cartridge connected, and that I was still in pursuit on Foote of the mail, subject through the backyard.
The male subject continue to run while being given orders to stop and lay down that he was under arrest. The male subject then entered the backyard and appeared to be heading into the direction of the tree line between the shed and the back of the house and then suddenly change paths and headed back towards the front of the house where we made contact with the grandmother. The subject then ran past her a short few steps and turned around and blade it off in a defensive nature in my direction.
The subject was then tackled and taken to the ground while being given orders to place his hands behind his back, he continued to resist and stick his hands towards his waistband area after 2 instructions to place your hands behind your back stop resisting the subject continued to not listen.
Due to his known history of carrying a knife and reaching for his waistband where weapons are known to be carried, I struck him in the face one time with a closed fist. The subject then complied and placed his hands out in front of him allowing me to place them in double locked handcuffs. The subject was assisted to his feet and walked to my patrol unit where he was checked for any illegal contraband or weapons. In his right front pocket, a pocket knife along with a vape were located. The subject was in placed in the rear of my marked patrol vehicle.
By this time, both his grandmother and great grandmother had come outside to which they both stated that he had not been acting right the last couple of days and have been lashing out at night due to not taking his medication. They also stated that there was damage located in the house that they would show me. We then entered the residence to which damage was located in the front foyer on a light switch. That is great. Grandmother said he had punched during this incident. She also showed me a broken corded phone in his bedroom that she also stated he had broken today along with damage on his bedroom door to where it appeared that he had kicked the door.
During the time I was in the subjects bedroom observing the damage. I also observed a small clear baggie, laying on the bed with a green leafy substance located in the bag. The clear baggie with the green leafy substance was collected for evidence and placed in a secure area in my marked patrol car once returning outside.
After briefly speaking with the grandparents, who identified the subject as Gavin Hedges 17 year old male.
Gavin was then transported to the Jones County Jail and turned over to detention staff without further incident.
