On 07/12/[2026], I, Deputy Steib, was dispatched to a single-vehicle accident involving an overturned vehicle with unknown injuries.
Upon arrival, I observed a white SUV overturned in the roadway, blocking both lanes of travel and causing the southbound lanes to be closed. I made contact with the driver, later identified as Kimberly Vinson. While checking on her welfare, I observed that her eyes were glossy and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her person.
I asked Kimberly if she was injured, and she stated that she was okay. I then assisted with securing the scene and arranging for the vehicle to be removed from the roadway due to it blocking traffic.
After the scene was secured, I asked Kimberly what had happened. She stated that she was not sure. I asked if she had fallen asleep behind the wheel, and she replied that she believed she had.
EMS arrived on scene and evaluated Kimberly. After their assessment, EMS advised that she had no apparent injuries, refused transport to the hospital, and that they also detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her person.
After EMS released her, I spoke with Kimberly further and asked how much alcohol she had consumed. Kimberly stated she had consumed four beers while celebrating her birthday at AP’s Bar on Broadway in Macon. She stated that after leaving the bar, she went home and later received a phone call from her husband asking her to pick him up from the same bar because he had consumed too much alcohol to drive.
Kimberly stated that she traveled from Creekside to Gray Highway and was traveling northbound on Gray Highway. She stated that was the last thing she remembered and did not know how her vehicle ended up overturned in the southbound lanes of Gray Highway.
Deputy Dominguez administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). Kimberly was unable to successfully complete the evaluations as instructed. Then administered a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), which indicated a breath alcohol concentration of 0.147.
Based on my observations, Kimberly’s admission to consuming alcoholic beverages, the odor of an alcoholic beverage, her glossy eyes, her performance on the SFSTs, the PBT result, and the circumstances of the crash, I placed Kimberly under arrest for Driving Under the Influence.
I read Georgia Implied Consent Notice for suspects age 21 or over, and Kimberly consented to the state-administered chemical test. She was transported to the Jones County Jail without incident and was issued a citation for Driving Under the Influence.
