On Thursday, July 31, 2026, at approximately 0016 hours, Deputy Croft assisted other deputies on a traffic stop at U.S. Highway 80 and Spur 4 in Montross, Georgia that resulted in an arrested.

As Deputy Croft exited the patrol vehicle, and noticed other Deputies were already beginning to search the vehicle. Deputy Croft stood by Ms. Dorian Grooms, Ms. Grooms appeared to upset for the reason for the traffic stop and did not understand why she was being pulled over. As Ms. Grooms continue to talk, Deputy Croft notice Ms. Grooms was sweating, jittery (nervous), and had constricted pupils.
Deputy Croft asked Ms. Grooms on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being sober and 10 being intoxicated on drugs or alcohol, where she thought she was at. Ms. Grooms advised that she was at a 0. Deputy Croft asked Ms. Grooms if she had any children in the car and if she would feel safe driving them around. Ms. Grooms advised that she would feel safe driving them around.
Deputy Croft asked Ms. Grooms when was the last time, she had any alcoholic beverage or any illegal narcotics. Ms. Grooms advised that she done substance in the last 24 hours but did not want to say what it is for she is going into a detox program. At this time, Deputy Croft asked Ms. Grooms if she would be willing to conduct standardized field sobriety testing and other testing (ARIDE) for the purpose of determining whether or not Ms. Grooms was under the influence of alcohol or any substance and safe to drive on Georgia Roadways, to which Ms. Grooms consented.
Before testing began, Deputy Croft asked Ms. Grooms about medical conditions that prevented Ms. Grooms from standing, walking, talking, or conducting daily activities, and if she wore Glasses. Ms. Grooms advised that she did not have any medical issues and did not wear glasses.
Deputy Croft began testing,

My observations of the driver during the Standardized Field Sobriety testing are as follows:

Notes: Ms. Grooms was positioned with her back towards the patrol vehicle, as it would not interfere with Ms. Grooms’s eyes. Ms. Grooms indicated that she understood directions. Both eyes track equally, and pupils are the same size. Both eyes were constricted at the time of the testing. Ms. Grooms was sweating profusely.
- Nine-Step Walk and Turn
A.) Walking Stage
Cannot Balance During Instructions, Starts Too Soon, Uses Arms Too Balance, and Improper Turn.
Total Clues= 4
Notes: Ms. Grooms could not keep balance and could not stay in instructed position. Ms. Grooms then left instructed position and began to start the test before instructions were giving. When asked Ms. Grooms advised she was nervous and her legs are Shakey.
Once in Instructed position and demonstration was provided, Ms. Grooms indicated she understood directions. As Ms. [GROOMS] began the testing, during the duration of the testing Ms. Grooms used her arms to balance. When it came time to turn and take her nine steps back, Ms. Grooms spin around and advised that how you do it in flip flops.

A.) Balance and Counting Stage
Uses Arms to Balance and Puts Foot Down
Total Clues= 2
Notes: Ms. Grooms indicated she understood directions and was given a demonstration. Ms. Grooms uses her arms to keep balance during the duration of the test. After actual time of 36 seconds of a 30 seconds test, Ms. Grooms puts her foot down and advised she can’t anymore for her legs are shaking and she is nervous. Ms. Grooms was counting out loud and was only at 21 seconds.
Convergence Test: Ms. Grooms no lack of convergence and had no issue with this portion.
Finger to Nose: Ms. Grooms did not have any issue with this portion.

Romberg Balance: Ms. Grooms estimated 45 seconds out of 30 actual seconds’ test.
Notes: instructions provided Deputy Croft asked Ms. Grooms how did she counted. Ms. Grooms advised that she image her microwave and began to count in one thousand but then saw a light and got distracted and just guess after that.
At this time, Deputy Croft was done with testing,
Deputy Croft, with his training and knowledge, believes Ms. Grooms to be under the influence. Deputy Croft advised Ms. Grooms that she was under arrest for DUI Drugs Deputy Croft read Ms. Grooms the Georgia Implied Consent over 21 and requested a blood sample; Ms. Grooms refused to a blood test.
Ms. Grooms was then placed the back seat of a patrol vehicle and transported to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Jail, where she was turned over to the Laurens County Jail Staff without incident. The vehicle was towed away from the scene by Watson Farm Towing.
Ms. Grooms was charged with DUI and Failure To Maintain in a Single Lane.
Ms. Grooms was severed with DDS form 1205 and her license was taken.
